Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must either have a CAD related degree or is working to obtain one
  • Drawing and Blueprint Reading Abilities
  • Knowledge of L&L materials, applications and processing.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Team player, self-starter, can-do attitude
  • Ability to work independently and make design related decisions with minimal supervision
  • Proficient with use of Catia, UG, Ideas, TCe and Vis-mockup
  • Customer appropriate CAD design systems and data management / storage systems
  • File structure
  • Oracle appropriate training for item creation and finished good completion templates
  • Principles and application of GD&T

Responsibilities

  • Develop an initial concept design and supply mock-up drawings for the Product Development Technician.
  • Apply design principles to new or existing parts that will result in the company's ability to meet the customer's needs.
  • Design and detail the part in a manner that clearly communicates the intent. This process should take into account the manufacturing ability and assembly requirements of the design. Responsibility to include installation clearances, part fit, fastener snap-by / function etc., are verified and accommodated on designs.
  • Develop proposals / design studies as requested by the Product Development Engineer.
  • Follow internal design guidelines, including adherence to global design Best Practices where appropriate. Internal standards including, but not limited to, Manufacturing Standards FCD2221 and customer specific design specifications.
  • To understand basic principles of design related to L&L Intellectual Properties and awareness of potential uncertain properties which need to be avoided in part design. All part designs must be considered for such evaluation, and should be inquired upon with the PD IP Specialist, Director or PD and/or the Director of Global IP if in question about any features. In the event that a new concept has potential for patentability, or if a competitor design is in question of utilizing L&L IP, the Product Engineer should inquire to the above mentioned as well for direction.
  • Maintain an organized work / CAD files.
  • Cross check other designers’ drawings when requested and /or check designs per checking instruction. (4-4-I-4) INS-0652
  • Develop illustrations as required.
  • Ensure that all drawings / data comply with customer appropriate standards, as well as L&L global data management criteria.
  • Cross train with other members of the Design team in order to sustain customer related backups in the event the primary OEM Designer is out of the office.
  • Complete Finished Good Item templates and input any other PD related information into the Oracle system as required.
  • Distribute math data, as required per TS16949 procedures.
  • Schedule and conduct design reviews with L&L Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Tooling, Purchasing and the component supplier. This would include completion and filing of the PVMFC documentation specific to the part application. Signoff on the design is included within the PVMFC.
