About The Position

This Product Developer role is a dynamic role that presents an opportunity for career growth in our Product Development function across our Bread and Alternatives category as well as related businesses. As a technical team member supported by a senior peer, this role is in charge of developing new products from scratch formulation as well as assessing the appropriate process technologies for progressing innovation, margin improvement / productivity, quality improvement and overall portfolio optimization across their assigned suite of products. This role also provides exposure various facilities and technologies used in our business allowing the team member to grow and expand horizons. The Product Developer will be part of our R&D team and work collaboratively to develop new products to support business growth. This team member can evolve quickly in the organization due to exposure to facilities and projects.

Requirements

  • A.Sc. in Food Science or a related Science/ Engineering degree
  • Passion for baking (at home or professionally)
  • 2 or more years’ experience in a food manufacturing facility would be an asset
  • Previous experience as a Product Developer would be an asset
  • Enjoys learning and collaborating with others
  • Proven collaborator with an ability to communicate technically on projects
  • Some mechanical competency and affinity for complex machinery
  • Knowledge in project management and ability to execute timely
  • Acquired presentation skills and professional presence
  • Up to 20% Travel across Canada

Responsibilities

  • Executes the creation new products and innovation as well as line extensions by bringing forward new concepts to create a competitive advantage.
  • Documents and understands manufacturing processes to identify process improvements leveraging existing assets or potential capital investments.
  • Communicates and works as a team member with bakeries, packaging R&D, operations, finance and technical services to commercialize projects for new business.
  • Evaluates incumbent suppliers and aids in selecting and qualifying new vendors.
  • Instrumental in development through the entire process – including product formulation, sourcing ingredients & suppliers, developing prototypes, laboratory testing, conducting plant trials and gaining necessary approvals for final product specifications and shelf life.
  • Able to work on multi variable projects with stringent timelines.
  • Organized and adaptable, willing to learn.
