Founding Product Designer

AgaveSan Francisco, CA
$125,000 - $200,000Onsite

About The Position

Agave is seeking its first design hire, a Founding Product Designer, to shape the visual identity, user experience, and overall usability of its platform. This role involves building a design system from scratch, designing across multiple new products launching this year, and collaborating closely with co-founders, engineers, and product managers. The company is an early-stage, profitable startup with significant funding, offering a unique opportunity for high impact and direct customer engagement in the construction tech industry. Agave provides a 'blank canvas' environment where the designer's work will have a compounding effect on the platform's value and user interaction for years to come. The company emphasizes its strong market position with little direct competition and backing from prominent investors and industry insiders.

Requirements

  • A portfolio showcasing shipped B2B product work with real users and, ideally, demonstrable outcomes.
  • Experience with systems thinking and building or contributing to a design system for a multi-product platform.
  • Comfort with data-dense, workflow-heavy software.
  • Strong aesthetic sense and the ability to articulate design rationale.
  • High degree of ownership and conscientiousness, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Clear and concise written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to work in-person in San Francisco 5 days a week.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to ship code, including experience with React, TypeScript, Tailwind, or similar technologies.
  • Experience designing for blue-collar, back-office, or operations-heavy industries such as construction, logistics, manufacturing, field services, trucking, energy, or accounting/ERP software.
  • Previous experience as the first or second designer at an early-stage startup, including setting up tooling and design systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end product experience across all current and future products.
  • Build the design system from scratch, including tokens, components, patterns, and documentation.
  • Design data-dense interfaces for workflows involving thousands of invoices, hundreds of vendors, and numerous jobs.
  • Conduct customer research by sitting in on calls, observing product usage, and identifying pain points to drive product improvements.
  • Partner with co-founders and PMs on product strategy and decisions, not just visual design.

Benefits

  • Healthcare coverage (90% of costs).
  • 401k matching (100% up to 4% of annual salary).
  • Annual performance bonuses tied to company growth goals.
  • Sizable relocation bonus for out-of-Bay Area candidates and a bonus for moving near the office.
  • Breakfast and dinner stipends through DoorDash, plus a stocked kitchen.
  • On-site gym with various equipment.
  • Visa sponsorship (H1B, TN, etc.).
  • Commuter benefits, including pre-tax contributions and a full Muni pass.
