About The Position

As a Product Designer, you will work closely with an established engineering team to enhance existing products and drive new developments. This role involves designing and developing mechanical engineering designs, drawings, and specifications to build equipment dedicated to the rugged and challenging terrain of the forestry industry. To excel in this role, a combination of technical skills is required, including both problem-solving and strong mechanical aptitude. Experience with fluid power systems, engine systems, electrical and electronic systems as well as drive train systems is required.

Requirements

  • Experience with fluid power systems, engine systems, electrical and electronic systems as well as drive train systems is required.
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles, material properties, manufacturing processes, and computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Effective communication and reasoning skills are essential when working on projects that involve multiple team members.
  • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Ability to create visually appealing and user-friendly products balancing aesthetics with practicality.
  • Staying updated on emerging technologies and continuous learning to innovate and improve existing solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed designs, perform calculations, and develop prototypes for mechanical components, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and industry standards.
  • Analyze and select appropriate materials based on mechanical properties, cost, and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate and work closely with cross-functional teams including designers/engineers, manufacturing, and quality control to ensure seamless integration of designs into production.
  • Conduct tests such as stress analysis, fatigue testing, and vibration analysis to validate designs and optimize performance, strength, response to stress and other characteristics.
  • Create technical documentation, including design specifications and bills of materials.
  • Identify opportunities for design optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements.
  • Occasionally participate in hands-on troubleshooting during the fabrication and/or assembly process.
  • When required provide field support for equipment troubleshooting and improvements.
