Product Designer

OpenClaw FoundationSan Francisco, CA
$250,000 - $300,000

About The Position

The OpenClaw Foundation is seeking a Product Designer to help define how millions of people interact with AI agents in their daily lives. This role is unique, moving beyond optimizing existing workflows to inventing entirely new interaction paradigms for the emerging agent era. The designer will shape systems where humans collaborate, delegate, communicate, and build trust with increasingly capable AI agents. As one of the earliest designers, the individual will be involved in product strategy, interaction design, prototyping, research, and visual design, working closely with engineers, researchers, open source contributors, and community members. The work will encompass consumer products, developer tooling, agent interfaces, identity systems, trust and permissions frameworks, open standards, and experimental research projects. The ideal candidate is deeply curious about the future of human-computer interaction and eager to shape how people interact with AI.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience designing software products, consumer applications, developer tools, or emerging technology platforms.
  • Exceptional interaction design, visual design, and systems thinking skills.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership of shipped products.
  • Ability to simplify highly technical concepts into intuitive user experiences.
  • Experience working closely with engineering teams and participating in product strategy discussions.
  • Strong prototyping skills using tools such as Figma, Framer, Principle, ProtoPie, or similar.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling abilities.
  • Comfort operating in highly ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
  • Deep curiosity about AI, open source software, developer communities, and the future of computing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing AI-native products, assistants, copilots, agents, or conversational interfaces.
  • Background designing developer tools, infrastructure products, APIs, or technical platforms.
  • Familiarity with open source communities and contributor ecosystems.
  • Experience conducting user research or human-computer interaction studies.
  • Knowledge of identity systems, trust and safety, permissions, or security-focused products.
  • Experience contributing to design systems at scale.
  • Background in interaction design, HCI, cognitive science, psychology, or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end product design from concept through implementation across The Foundation’s products and initiatives.
  • Design intuitive experiences for AI agents, workflows, developer tools, and user-facing applications.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and researchers to translate emerging AI capabilities into usable products.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, interaction flows, visual systems, and production-ready designs.
  • Conduct user research and synthesize qualitative and quantitative insights into product decisions.
  • Explore new interaction paradigms for human-agent collaboration, delegation, memory, trust, and personalization.
  • Help establish design systems, UX principles, and visual standards across the OpenClaw ecosystem.
  • Contribute to standards discussions around agent identity, permissions, interoperability, and user control.
  • Work directly with open source contributors and community members to gather feedback and improve product experiences.
  • Champion user-centered thinking throughout the Foundation.
