About The Position

The U.S. Soccer Federation is seeking a Product Designer to own the design of its mobile application. This role will be responsible for the iOS and Android user experience, connecting members, fans, and participants to the game. Reporting to the Director of Product, the individual will lead the end-to-end mobile design experience, setting standards for craft, usability, and brand expression. The ideal candidate is a hands-on designer with expertise in native mobile design patterns, strong visual and interaction design skills, and a passion for understanding users. This role involves close collaboration with product management, engineering, brand, and stakeholders to define the mobile vision, ship experiences, and contribute to the evolution of U.S. Soccer's broader design system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of expertise, or equivalent professional experience
  • 2+ years of professional product design experience, with a meaningful portion focused on shipping native mobile applications (iOS, Android, or both)
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong visual design, interaction design, and end-to-end mobile product thinking
  • Strong working knowledge of Apple Human Interface Guidelines and Material Design, and an understanding of when to follow platform conventions versus when to depart from them
  • Proficiency in Figma, including building and maintaining mobile components, variants, and tokens, and creating prototypes that communicate motion and interaction
  • Demonstrated ability to drive design work independently and lead the design direction of a product or major feature area
  • General knowledge of soccer
  • Capable of working in fast-paced and demanding environments
  • Must be able to connect the "micro" details to the "macro" vision and mission

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as the lead or sole designer on a consumer-facing mobile app
  • Background working with video-heavy content, real-time data, or content-rich feeds in a mobile context
  • Demonstrated strategic hustle and work ethic with diversity of thought
  • Familiarity with mobile accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA, Voiceover, Talkback, Dynamic Type) and designing for low-bandwidth or older-device contexts

  • Demonstrated experience contributing to a mobile design system as a maintainer
  • Comfort with motion design and prototyping tools beyond Figma (e.g., Principle, After Effects, or Lottie)

Responsibilities

  • Own the design of U.S. Soccer's mobile application across iOS and Android, owning the experience from vision through launch and ongoing iteration
  • Define the design direction for the app, including information architecture, core flows, navigation patterns, and visual language
  • Translate complex requirements from across the Federation into clear, intuitive mobile experiences
  • Apply native iOS and Android design patterns and platform conventions while maintaining a coherent U.S. Soccer brand experience across both platforms
  • Conduct user research with members, fans, and Federation staff and translate findings into product decisions
  • Partner with product and engineering to define the mobile roadmap, prioritize tradeoffs, and shape what gets built
  • Contribute to and extend the mobile app design system, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and scalability across iOS and Android
  • Collaborate closely with mobile engineers throughout implementation, supporting design QA on real devices and balancing craft with delivery timelines
  • Design for real-world conditions including variable connectivity, push notifications, and a wide range of device sizes
