About The Position

Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is seeking a Product Designer II to join their News Design team. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional partners to design and launch features and improvements for digital news products. The designer will tackle strategic News design challenges across multiple platforms including mobile app, web, and CTV, contributing to end-to-end experiences for core user journeys like story discovery, live news engagement, personalization, and content consumption. A user-centered, data-informed design process will be used to create intuitive, accessible, and delightful user experiences.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience designing consumer-facing digital products, preferably in media, content, or technology organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, or experience in a related field.
  • Experience designing and shipping features across responsive web and native mobile platforms.
  • Solid understanding of interaction design principles, usability, accessibility, and platform conventions.
  • Experience working within and contributing to a multi-platform design system.
  • Proficiency in Figma and other standard design and prototyping tools.
  • Ability to balance user needs, business requirements, and technical constraints.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently with guidance from design manager and mentor, taking ownership of problem spaces.
  • Apply a user-centered, data-informed design process to understand user needs and translate them into design solutions.
  • Design and ship features and product improvements across web, mobile, CTV, and other platforms.
  • Partner closely with product, engineering, research, and editorial teams.
  • Clearly articulate project goals, design rationale, and tradeoffs in critiques, team reviews, and stakeholder presentations.
  • Rapidly concept solutions at varying levels of fidelity from sketches and wireframes to high-fidelity mockups and prototypes.
  • Leverage and contribute to the design system, using established patterns and guidelines.
  • Proactively seek and incorporate feedback from critiques and cross-functional partners, and provide critique to peers.
  • Manage time effectively, estimate work accurately, and communicate project status, risks, and dependencies.
  • Embrace ambiguity with curiosity, using it as an opportunity to learn and refine problem-solving approach.
