Product Data Specialist

Vinci•Palo Alto, CA
•$240,000 - $260,000

About The Position

Vinci is seeking its founding data scientist to establish the foundations of data science and use product data to inform product, engineering, management, and go-to-market decisions. The role will define how engineers use Vinci’s engineering platform, connect usage behavior to accounts, contracts, and pipeline, and identify opportunities for account expansion, churn prevention, and addressing unmet customer needs. The specialist will define and maintain trustworthy engagement metrics, investigate feature adoption, workflow patterns, friction, and the usefulness of model output in users’ workflows. They will support engineers in diagnosing failing workflows and monitoring usage across customers and features, and provide recommendations to product, sales, and management teams. The role also owns building and maintaining pipelines that transform source databases and unstructured data into analysis-ready datasets while protecting customer confidentiality. Success is measured by how often the evidence produced informs or changes product and go-to-market decisions.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of applied product or behavioral analytics experience, with specific examples of analyses that changed a product or business decision.
  • Fluency in SQL and Python.
  • Comfort building and maintaining dashboards in a reporting platform such as Grafana.
  • Experience building and operating data pipelines, working directly with production databases and raw logs, and selecting suitable tools such as Spark or dbt.
  • Experience instrumenting a product by defining events, working with engineers to ship instrumentation or shipping it directly, and detecting when logged data misrepresents user behavior while protecting privacy and confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate findings and recommendations to non-analysts, both in writing and conversation.
  • Ability and willingness to drive analytical work end to end, including analysis, pipeline and dataset construction, tool selection, and instrumentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with technical or B2B products used by professionals doing expert work.
  • Exposure to simulation, CAD, EDA, or other engineering software.
  • Experience joining product usage data with CRM or revenue data.

Responsibilities

  • Define engagement for a professional engineering tool, build relevant metrics, publish them for teams, and maintain their trustworthiness as the product changes.
  • Investigate feature adoption, workflow patterns, and friction to inform product strategy and feature decisions; collaborate with product management and originate analytical questions.
  • Help engineers identify and debug failing workflows, monitor usage across customers and features, and surface product improvement opportunities.
  • Join application behavior with account and revenue data to identify signals of expansion, churn, or unmet needs, and make actionable recommendations to sales and product teams.
  • Measure whether users find model outputs useful in their workflows; model quality itself is owned by the AI team.
  • Build and maintain pipelines that turn source databases and unstructured data into analysis-ready datasets while protecting customer confidentiality.
  • Conduct analysis, build datasets and pipelines, connect databases, and present results to executives.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to non-analysts in writing and conversation.
