About The Position

OpenArt is seeking a Product Data Scientist focused on growth and retention to serve as the analytical partner for PMs and engineers. This role is central to experimentation, product analytics, and growth strategy, with the primary goal of translating data into product decisions that improve key funnel metrics like activation, conversion, monetization, and retention through rigorous A/B testing and behavioral insights. The position involves close collaboration with Product, Engineering, and Growth teams to design and analyze experiments across various product surfaces, including signup, onboarding, activation, paywall/pricing, feature adoption, and retention loops. Additionally, the role requires conducting in-depth analyses to inform product development, such as funnel diagnostics, cohort behavior, LTV segmentation, and retention driver analysis.

Requirements

  • 3–6 years of experience in data science or analytics supporting product, growth, or lifecycle teams (level and title flexible based on candidate).
  • Solid A/B testing experience, including designing, running, and analyzing experiments.
  • Strong SQL and Python skills, with the ability to work with data end-to-end independently.
  • Solid statistical foundation.
  • Product intuition and instinct for insight generation.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present clear data stories to various stakeholders and engage in discussions with strong opinions.
  • High sense of ownership and comfort working in ambiguous environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an early hire at a consumer startup.
  • Experience with consumer products, marketplaces, or subscription businesses.
  • Experience with experimentation platforms (in-house or vendor like Statsig, Optimizely, etc.).
  • Familiarity with causal inference methods beyond A/B tests (e.g., diff-in-diff, synthetic control, propensity matching, CUPED).
  • Experience with the tech stack: BigQuery, Amplitude, Metabase, Stripe, GCP.
  • Exposure to AI/ML products or generative AI.
  • Comfort working across time zones with a globally distributed team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, run, and analyze A/B tests and other causal experiments across signup, onboarding, activation, monetization, and retention surfaces.
  • Set the standard for experimental rigor, including test sizing, MDE, run duration, primary/secondary metrics, and readout standards.
  • Debug and resolve complex experimental issues such as sample ratio mismatch, novelty effects, interaction effects, multiple comparisons, and segment heterogeneity.
  • Develop and enhance OpenArt's experimentation practices as the company scales, including playbooks, guardrails, and post-launch validation.
  • Conduct deep-dive analyses on the growth funnel, from signup to activation, paid conversion, retention, and resurrection.
  • Own retention analysis to identify drivers of long-term retention versus churn and translate these findings into product recommendations.
  • Perform LTV and cohort analyses to inform pricing, packaging, and monetization strategies.
  • Identify key user segments and the behaviors that drive them through behavioral segmentation.
  • Quantify the potential impact of proposed product changes before development.
  • Define and own key product metrics (activation, engagement, retention, monetization) in collaboration with PMs.
  • Build and validate dashboards for leadership.
  • Ensure consistency of metric definitions across product, marketing, and finance.
  • Translate analyses into clear, actionable recommendations for PMs, engineers, and executives.
  • Provide data-driven pushback on proposed experiments that are underpowered, mis-scoped, or measuring incorrect metrics.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary and bonus program
  • Equity — meaningful ownership in what you build
  • High autonomy, high growth environment
  • Visa sponsorship available
