Product / Data Science Intern

Zendar•Berkeley, CA
•$38 - $40•Onsite

About The Position

Zendar is seeking a recent graduate for a six-month intern-to-hire role working across its robotics stack, including perception, controls, simulation, and robotic applications such as asset tracking and site monitoring. The role centers on measurement: designing experiments and building tools to assess whether systems work, how well they work, and why, then sharing findings with ML and control engineers. Priorities may shift quickly, so the position is suited to someone comfortable with ambiguous problems, able to learn new domains quickly, and interested in potentially growing into a full-time engineering role. The intern will work with a small team developing Zendar’s radar-centric autonomy stack, which spans radar sensor hardware, signal processing, multimodal perception foundation models, and path and trajectory planning. The role is a 40-hour-per-week, in-office internship for six months, with a flexible start date. Compensation is $38.00–$40.00 per hour. Zendar offers the opportunity to assess mutual fit for a potential full-time junior role.

Requirements

  • Recent graduate with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Familiarity with Linux environments.
  • Experience using agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.
  • Experience designing and conducting experiments from a scientific perspective and applying statistical analysis to extract insights from noisy, real-world data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate technical results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfort driving loosely defined projects, adapting to evolving requirements, and rapidly mastering new technical domains.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with C++.
  • Experience with GCP, BigQuery, or SQL.
  • Experience processing sensor data, such as radar, LiDAR, or camera feeds.
  • Experience with and enthusiasm for working directly with hardware and robotics platforms, including vehicles and sensor test rigs.
  • Familiarity with ROS or robotics simulation software.
  • Coursework or experience in controls, dynamics, or state estimation, such as MPC, Kalman filters, or odometry.
  • Experience handling 3D data and spatial geometry, including point clouds, coordinate frames, and rigid-body transformations.
  • Experience building data visualizations or interactive dashboards using tools such as Matplotlib, Plotly, or Streamlit.

Responsibilities

  • Design and run experiments and test scenarios to measure performance across perception models, controllers, and robotic applications.
  • Build and extend Python tools for evaluation, data analysis, and visualization.
  • Support simulation workflows, data collection, and hands-on testing with vehicles, robots, and sensors.
  • Help prototype and evaluate robotic applications, such as security monitoring and container inventory management.
  • Present findings to ML, controls, and product engineering teams, and collaborate to track and resolve identified issues.

Benefits

  • Daily catered lunch and a stocked fridge.
  • Opportunity to assess mutual fit for a potential full-time junior role.
