About The Position

ClarityPay is seeking a Product Counsel, a key foundational hire for its legal and compliance team. This role offers significant opportunities for professional growth within a rapidly expanding fintech company. The position is broad-based, with a primary focus on regulatory and operational matters, complemented by support for commercial contracting. It is an ideal opportunity for a seasoned financial services regulatory attorney aiming to transition into an in-house generalist role, or for a fintech generalist looking to specialize in the lending sector.

Requirements

  • JD from a top-tier law school.
  • License to practice law in good standing in primary state of residence.
  • 7+ years of total legal experience.
  • At least 2 years of law firm experience.
  • Deep experience advising clients on consumer financial services matters.
  • Contract drafting and negotiation experience.
  • Strong legal research skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and leverage new technology quickly and effectively, including hands-on experience leveraging modern AI tools for legal work.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in fintech lending.
  • Broad legal experience covering regulatory, transactional, and dispute resolution matters.
  • Prior experience performing in-depth legal risk assessments on consumer financial services regulations.
  • Experience supporting the compliance function of a consumer lender or lending platform.
  • Experience working with regulators to quickly and effectively resolve inquiries, complaints, or information requests.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an in-house subject matter expert on consumer and small business lending regulations, monitoring changes and directives impacting the company and its partners.
  • Lead the establishment of regulatory requirements for new product development and implementation.
  • Provide accurate and pragmatic regulatory advice and in-depth legal risk assessments for the development and launch of new financial products.
  • Support compliance and customer service teams in resolving customer and regulator inquiries and complaints.
  • Assist compliance, business development, customer service, and other internal stakeholders with legal and regulatory questions.
  • Provide legal support for ClarityPay’s Compliance and Operational Risk Program.
  • Support commercial contracting efforts with merchants and vendors.
  • Collaborate on the development and improvement of internal policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Project-manage key legal and compliance initiatives.
  • Support or own other legal projects as directed by the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer.
