About The Position

We’re looking for a Full-Time Evening News Producer. This person will be a newsroom leader, taking initiative to shape and strengthen the CityNews brand. This is a leadership role within our news operation, ensuring our content engages and builds our audience on the Alberta 24/7 streaming platform and daily news programs. You are well-informed of the news cycle in Calgary, along with the rest of Alberta. The position is an evening weekday role.

Requirements

  • The ability to work under the pressure of a fast-paced newsroom and a willingness to explore new ways of producing news.
  • Proactive instincts, good journalistic sense and confidence to make editorial decisions.
  • A passion for local live and breaking news, and an interest in growing professionally.
  • An insatiable curiosity. We want producers who are always asking why and pushing our stories into territories that our competition is not exploring, while also offering context that our audience is seeking.

Responsibilities

  • Lead our evening coverage on 24/7 and CityNews Calgary.
  • Oversee the Alberta 24/7 stream, ensuring aired content is relevant and the latest.
  • Keep track of breaking news locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Write content and vet stories.
  • Bring the daily news program to air.
  • Collaborate with Supervising Producer for show and stream needs/requirements.
  • Assign news stories when needed.
  • Locate visuals/materials needed to tell story.
  • Support and communicate with field teams (VJs, ENG).
  • Contribute to /help generate story ideas and pitches.
  • Provide support during special events (e.g elections, referendums).
