About The Position

Scripps News is seeking a Washington, DC-based Producer to serve as an off-camera news gatherer and the principal liaison between the field and the network. The Producer will cover events, manage a team of photojournalists in the field, support the correspondent, gather story elements, and communicate news and information to the newsroom. This is a field position that requires travel.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• 3–6 years of field producing and/or live programming producing experience.
• Strong editorial judgment, research, writing, and package-writing skills.
• Interest in or passion for the subject matter being covered.
• Ability to calmly communicate breaking news and important information during live events.
• Effective team leadership and strong people-management skills.
• Ability to cultivate and develop contacts and sources.
• Ability to travel.

Nice To Haves

• ENG shooting experience.
• Knowledge of iNews.

Responsibilities

• Establish and set up live-shot locations.
• Supervise and manage ENG crews.
• Edit content for live and modular programming, including live-shot elements, live segments, and packages.
• Shoot b-roll, conduct interviews, and work with talent in the field.
• Communicate editorial developments from the field to the newsroom, show teams, and control room.
• Develop contacts and sources.
• Write and produce segments and packages.
• Write daily updates relating to live events.
• Write detailed memos for taped programming.
• Meet established deadlines.
• Travel and manage field logistics and production.
• Stay current on story developments, including potentially attending press conferences and events.
