CBC Toronto is looking for a video producer who is an expert in short-form video storytelling and open to experimenting with new social-first formats to reach young and diverse audiences. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker who puts audience needs at the centre of their decision-making, ensuring our video content across all platforms, including CBC’s owned and operated apps, YouTube and TikTok, connects our audiences to the news they need to know, the stories that affect their lives and the issues that resonate in their communities. The candidate should be at the leading edge of changing audience consumption trends in the digital space, with a deep understanding of major issues in the GTA and the cultural intelligence to identify how those issues affect the myriad of communities who live here. This role requires a natural visual storyteller with strong writing skills, who embraces public engagement and is comfortable in breaking news situations as well as delivering explainers for social platforms. The ideal candidate is curious, eager to learn, embraces change, takes initiative, is collaborative, a great communicator, and uses data to make decisions and stay on top of consumption patterns. A background in daily, multiplatform journalism is essential, along with comfort in conceiving, creating, and packaging video content across platforms in various formats. Experience assigning and managing the work of others, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and strong planning and organizational abilities are also required. The position requires full-time, on-site presence at the Toronto Broadcast Centre.
