About The Position

Woodlands Market, Marin and San Francisco's premier gourmet grocery store, has openings for Produce Supervisor! Responsible for the overall vision, direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Produce department. Acting as the second-in-charge, the Produce Supervisor directs and supervises all functions and activities of the produce personnel to achieve the established sales and profit goals.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership skills, integrity, and the reasoning ability to solve practical problems.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to carry out detailed conversations in English.
  • Basic knife skills for trimming and sampling produce.
  • Math skills are necessary to supervise and handle department operations.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure product and work meet store standards.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and complete the most important objectives efficiently.
  • 2 years of relevant experience

Responsibilities

  • Assign employees to specific duties using a daily task list.
  • Assist Produce Manager in creating weekly produce schedules and manage time-off requests, lunches, and breaks.
  • Assist Produce Manager in evaluating and reacting to performance issues, executing performance appraisals, and conducting personnel management.
  • Maintain the training program and assist employees in product knowledge.
  • Monitor and enforce punctuality for scheduled shifts and ensure compliance with store policies.
  • Monitor the receiving and unloading of produce merchandise to ensure accurate billing, pricing, quality, and condition of products.
  • Order necessary merchandise and supplies daily and create order guides.
  • Effectively control inventory to maximize sales, maximize turnover, and minimize over-stock and under-stock.
  • Determine product placement based on movement and consumer demand to maximize sales.
  • Ensure product rotation procedures are rigidly observed and merchandise is of optimal freshness.
  • Create produce tags in the computer system and ensure all signs and prices are maintained accurately.
  • Provide a warm welcome to customers, assist with inquiries, and help locate products throughout the store.
  • Sample products to customers and employees, providing relevant information such as recipe ideas, seasonality, and ripeness.
  • Monitor and enforce a regular housekeeping and sanitation program to meet department standards and health regulations.
