About The Position

The Produce Manager is responsible for achieving desired gross profit and productivity levels within the produce department. This role involves sales forecasting, product movement planning, labor needs assessment, and efficient product ordering and receiving. The Produce Manager also oversees department personnel, including interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluation, and discipline, following established company guidelines. Additionally, the role requires meticulous record-keeping, preparation of work schedules, stocking and merchandising, accurate pricing, and maintaining product freshness through rotation. Basic housekeeping duties, safe operation of equipment, and ensuring appropriate temperature controls for produce storage are also key responsibilities. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in temperature extremes (down to 32 degrees in coolers), and stand or walk for extended periods at a rapid pace.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in temperature extremes, (produce cooler maximum low temperature, 32 degrees).
  • Standing and/or walking at a rapid pace for extended periods of time to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Achieves desired gross profit.
  • Achieves desired level of productivity.
  • Projects sales, product movement, labor needs.
  • Orders product according to established guidelines.
  • Receives and unloads truck deliveries using available equipment and according to established guidelines.
  • Establishes daily work assignments and priorities for produce department personnel.
  • Follows established guidelines in all personnel issues, interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluation, discipline, discharge, etc.
  • Follows established guidelines for completion of all required forms, records, reports and verify receipts.
  • Prepares weekly work schedules according to established guidelines.
  • Stocks and straightens merchandise and supplies.
  • Using pricing/label gun, marks each item with the correct selling price.
  • Rotates merchandise according to anticipated shelf life/product expiration dates.
  • Performs basic housekeeping duties using available equipment, (mops, brooms, floor scrubbing and buffing machines, etc.).
  • Operates all required tools and equipment in a safe manner except when restricted due to age.
  • Ensure coolers and cases maintain appropriate temperatures.
  • Maintains a neat and clean work area.
  • Performs all essential job functions at an acceptable level of speed and accuracy.
