About The Position

The Produce Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the produce department, ensuring a high level of product quality, customer service, and merchandising. This role involves managing inventory, training staff, and achieving sales and profitability goals.

Requirements

  • Food Safety Management Certification.
  • Minimum 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 plus years of experience in a supervisory role within a grocery store or produce department.
  • Strong knowledge of produce items, including handling, storage, and seasonal availability.
  • Excellent leadership and team-building skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • additional education in business or retail management is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead produce department staff, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluations as requested.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Maintain high standards of product quality and freshness.
  • Oversee the proper storage, handling, and rotation of produce items to minimize waste.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing customer inquiries, resolving complaints, and offering product recommendations.
  • Ensure that the produce department is clean, organized, and visually appealing.
  • Monitor customer preferences and trends to adjust inventory and displays accordingly.
  • Manage inventory levels to ensure adequate stock without overstocking or understocking.
  • Order produce from suppliers and vendors.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts and audits to maintain accurate records.
  • Develop and implement merchandising strategies to maximize sales and profitability.
  • Plan and execute seasonal and promotional displays to attract customers.
  • Monitor sales performance and adjust strategies as needed to meet sales targets.
