About The Position

The Produce Manager at Hugo's Family Marketplace is responsible for leading the produce department to ensure the highest quality and freshest produce is available for customers. This role involves managing inventory, minimizing waste, and implementing effective pricing strategies to maximize sales and profitability. The Produce Manager will also ensure compliance with health and safety regulations while fostering a positive work environment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of fruits and vegetables, including seasonality, varieties, and quality indicators
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations
  • Proficiency in inventory management and computer skills
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Leadership and team management
  • Expertise in handling fruits, vegetables, and storage
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and compliance
  • Proficiency in inventory management and stock rotation
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to track sales and ensure department profitability
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Physical stamina for standing, lifting, and bending
  • Effective communication and coordination skills

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in food service management, agriculture, business, or retail management
  • Prior experience as a Produce Clerk or Lead
  • 1–2+ years of supervisory or management experience
  • Experience with inventory control, ordering, and department operations

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the produce department, including ordering, stocking, and inventory management to ensure adequate stock levels and minimize waste.
  • Maintain the quality of produce by ensuring proper handling, storage, and display techniques.
  • Train and supervise produce department staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Ensure displays are well-organized, visually appealing, and fully stocked to attract customers.
  • Develop and implement pricing strategies to enhance sales and profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including sanitation standards.
  • Promote a positive shopping experience for customers through excellent customer service and merchandise presentation.
