About The Position

The Produce Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role supports the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and monitors quality assurance standards. The position involves assisting customers with produce questions and recommendations, preparing and handling merchandise, maintaining product quality and freshness, and supporting department inventory and merchandising. It also requires following food safety and workplace safety procedures, maintaining equipment and temperature standards, and reporting concerns to management. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.
Current food handlers permit once employed.

Responsibilities

Create a welcoming environment by answering questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain knowledge of department products and answer questions or make product suggestions.
Assist with preparing produce platters and trays.
Inform customers of produce specials and recommend products that meet their needs.
Prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise.
Inspect products for quality and freshness and take appropriate action when needed.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Maintain a positive attitude and stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and keep temperature logs.
Comply with safety procedures, reinforce safety programs, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and report items needing repair to the appropriate manager.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Report safety risks or issues and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud, to store management.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
Manage conflict reasonably, cooperatively, and without confrontation.
Act honestly and with integrity regarding customer and business information.
Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
