About The Position

The Procurement Specialist partners closely with Sales and suppliers to support quoting, sourcing, and procurement for non-stock items, project bids, and urgent customer requests. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate product selection, competitive pricing, and timely delivery while maximizing sales margin and minimizing risk. Success in this role is measured by the quality and competitiveness of bids, margin optimization, and the ability to effectively support Sales in winning business.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; post-secondary education in business or a related field is required/preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or a related role.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and with external partners.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and digital tools is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Review and qualify requests for quotation (RFQs) from Sales to ensure completeness and alignment with customer requirements.
  • Analyze customer requirements, specifications, and inventory availability to ensure accurate product selection and quoting.
  • Identify gaps in RFQs and provide guidance to Sales to strengthen proposals and improve win rates.
  • Support Sales in optimizing margin by identifying upsell opportunities, substitutions, and value-added solutions.
  • Review and interpret bills of materials (BOMs), engineering drawings, and bid documents to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Prepare and support landed cost calculations and provide input into bid strategy and pricing decisions.
  • Source materials and obtain pricing, availability, and technical information from suppliers.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive pricing, improved terms, and favourable delivery schedules to support business objectives.
  • Identify and act on cost-saving opportunities related to materials, freight, and operational efficiencies.
  • Investigate and resolve supplier, freight, and invoice discrepancies in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.
