About The Position
The State Crime Laboratory of the Department of Justice maintains a full service forensic science laboratory to assist all law enforcement agencies in North Carolina in the investigation of criminal matters. The Laboratory’s mission is to provide state-of-the-art forensic services in the areas of drug analysis, blood alcohol/drug content, firearms, latent prints, footwear and tire tracks, forensic biology, computer forensics, and trace evidence. The services are provided from a central laboratory in Raleigh, N.C. and regional laboratories located in Edneyville, N.C. and Greensboro, N.C. The primary purpose of the Procurement Specialist I position is to purchase the goods and services used by the State Crime Laboratory to sustain daily operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution, or Associate degree in business or related field of study from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of procurement experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation which may take several months to complete.
- Background investigation includes: polygraph, credit and arrest checks, interviews with associates to include personal and business references, past employers, and neighbors, verification of education achievement, fingerprinting, and urinalysis drug screening.

- Experience with the NC eProcurement system.
Responsibilities
- Acquire goods and services for the crime laboratory using eProcurement (Ariba) purchasing system.
- Maintain thorough and detailed documentation to support crime lab purchases.
- Utilize approved guidelines, procedures, and software to perform duties (i.e. Procurement Manual, eProcurement, NCFS, etc.)
- Provide administrative support to the crime laboratory and DOJ Financial Services staff to draft procurement and contract documents.
- Communicate effectively with (crime lab staff) and external customers (vendors/suppliers) to gather specifications, obtain quotes and other required documentation related to crime lab purchases.
- Provide good customer services when interacting with internal customers (crime lab staff) and external customers (vendors/suppliers).
