About The Position

Design Hire is seeking a Procurement / Project Assistant to support purchasing, material coordination, and active fire protection projects. This position will take material requirements from project takeoffs, place and track orders, coordinate with vendors, and ensure required materials reach the shop or project site when they are needed. This is an ideal position for someone with plumbing, mechanical, MEP, or construction purchasing experience who already understands common pipe and fitting terminology and enjoys keeping projects organized.

Requirements

• Previous experience in procurement, purchasing, project coordination, or material coordination within plumbing, mechanical, MEP, construction, or a related environment.
• Familiarity with pipe, fittings, valves, and common MEP/construction material terminology strongly preferred.
• Experience working from material lists, takeoffs, BOMs, or similar project documentation.
• Comfortable communicating directly with vendors and following orders through final delivery.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple active orders and projects simultaneously.
• Ability to recognize scheduling risks and proactively follow up on delayed or backordered material.
• Basic computer proficiency and experience working with purchasing, accounting, ERP, or construction management systems.

Nice To Haves

• Fire sprinkler industry experience is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Review project takeoffs and material requirements, place purchase orders, and confirm quantities, pricing, availability, and expected delivery dates.
• Track materials from initial order through shipment and final delivery, maintaining visibility into open orders, backorders, lead times, and potential delays.
• Expedite critical materials when project schedules require earlier delivery and proactively resolve vendor, shipping, quantity, or availability issues.
• Coordinate material needs and order status with project managers, designers, fabrication/shop personnel, field teams, vendors, and suppliers.
• Maintain organized purchasing and project records while helping ensure the correct materials arrive at the correct location when required.
