About The Position

Daimler Truck North America is seeking an experienced and talented Procurement Lead and Commodity Manager for Semiconductor and Mechatronics components to join our team in Portland, Oregon. The main function of this role is to increase company margins by negotiating and driving down the costs of sourced products as an individual contributor. This involves a thorough understanding of what makes up the specific commodities and how the components impact overall costs. Also, the commodity manager must be the main point of contact for all supply chain-related issues within their commodities and supply base. Commodity management is responsible for supplier selection, supplier qualification, and negotiating to ensure contract terms are favorable to DTNA. The commodity manager is also responsible to develop and regularly adjust commodity specific strategy.

Requirements

  • BS/BS level degree in Business, Engineering, Materials Science, Logistics, or related technical discipline, and 5-7 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience in contract negotiations and supplier selection/management
  • Experience in purchase of technical commodities and implementation of best practices
  • Direct experience in Purchasing and Supply
  • Previous work experience in commodity management for both build to print (BTP) and OEM commodities, procurement, contracting, materials management, logistics, manufacturing, quality, account management
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the demonstrated ability to lead and manage projects
  • Ability to prioritize and allocate resources to align with department and company goals
  • Proven track record to deliver results and achieve goals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to create strong working relationships
  • Ability to act as an advisor to management and key stakeholders (internal/external) on broad ranging projects.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Fluent in English both written and verbal
  • Must be flexible to work extended hours to support the requirements of the business

Responsibilities

  • Independently responsible for strategic suppliers
  • Lead the component and supplier selection process for new products.
  • Establish business models, maintain contractual requirements and foster relationships with critical suppliers.
  • Develop and execute negotiation strategies.
  • Develop and update the commodity strategy.
  • Update and inform management and purchasing teams on strategy, trends and risks and collaboratively and cross-functionally develop action items and implementation plans.
  • Develop updates of critical semiconductors, chips and defined mechatronics commodities and the associated market conditions, industry trends, processes, suppliers, cost drivers, etc. for definition and documentation of commodity and sourcing strategy and establishment of performance goals.
  • Provide strategic leadership and management of suppliers to achieve best in class performance for the following key strategic initiatives: Price/Cost - Assure best cost structure and define cost reduction initiatives and metrics for all phases of the business: design, production, and aftermarket. Quality - Drive implementation of established supplier quality-related initiatives that include initial quality and long term goals for the supplier. Agility & Flexibility - Implement supplier managed programs and other functional and company-wide process improvements to assure material availability and manage inventory levels. Technology Leadership – In conjunction with Engineering select and develop suppliers that provide technology leadership. Supply security – establish action plans and strategy to ensure long term supply safety and set measures in place for potential supply risk situations.
