About The Position

Explore Industries is seeking a Procurement and Purchasing Specialist to support sourcing and day-to-day purchasing for their Albany, New York operations. This on-site role is crucial for ensuring that materials, components, and equipment are procured on time, at the right cost, and are ready for production. The specialist will be responsible for translating demand forecasts and production needs into a practical buying plan, managing supplier relationships, overseeing purchase orders, and maintaining optimal inventory levels. Success in this role requires a balance of cost, quality, service, and lead time management, along with effective collaboration with operations, quality, warehouse, finance, and vendors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, operations, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in procurement, purchasing, materials planning, or a related manufacturing supply-chain role.
  • Experience working with suppliers, comparing quotes, negotiating terms, and managing purchase orders.
  • Working knowledge of ERP or purchasing systems, inventory planning, lead times, and supplier follow-up.
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills, with the ability to turn data into clear recommendations.
  • Clear communication, sound judgment, organization, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced plant environment.
  • Ability to work across departments, resolve issues, and follow work through to completion.

Nice To Haves

  • Manufacturing, durable goods, or multi-site purchasing experience preferred.
  • Professional certification such as CPSM, CSCP, or CPIM is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Source and purchase materials, components, equipment, packaging, freight, and supporting services.
  • Identify and work with suppliers, obtain competitive pricing, and recommend purchases using cost, quality, and delivery comparisons.
  • Negotiate price, lead time, terms, and delivery to meet production needs.
  • Convert forecasts, bills of material, inventory levels, and lead times into a purchasing plan.
  • Create and manage purchase orders from release through receipt; expedite or adjust orders as demand changes.
  • Maintain purchasing data in the ERP system, monitor material availability, and flag shortages early.
  • Help manage supplier performance, resolve receiving and invoice issues, and avoid excess or obsolete inventory.
