About The Position

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a 2nd Shift Processing Technician II, Plating for our Carson, CA location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we’re the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment. Responsible for set-up, operation, and maintenance of miscellaneous plating machines, processing of parts, meeting print, and specification requirements.

Requirements

  • 0-1 year of plating experience
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 30 pounds
  • Maintains a clean and orderly workplace in accordance with 5S standards
  • Employee must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Process parts to meet Government, Manufacturing and Environmental Specifications
  • Clean parts free of oil and grease per departmental specifications
  • Ensure parts are clean prior to chemical immersion
  • Sort parts to separate media, defected parts, FOD and uniformity
  • Paint, Dip, Hand blast and Tumble parts.
  • Strip all coatings from OD/ID of parts
  • Olive drab chromate with color or clear after CAD Plate
  • Machines required to use; Hand Blast, Auto Blast, Tumble DeBurr, Jenfab, Hoist, and Spin Dryer, lube booth equipment
  • Applies copper, nickel, silver, zinc and cadmium coatings to metal parts and conversion coatings to cadmium plated and aluminum parts.
  • Makes voltage and amperage adjustments to proper current density of plating baths.
  • Maintains pH level and proper chemical concentrations of all plating baths.
  • Performs hydrogen relief treatments after plating and chemical cleaning operations as required by applicable specifications.
  • Inspects a representative sample of each plating load to ensure proper coverage and adhesion.
  • Measures plating thickness utilizing x-ray method and instruments such as micrometer, magna-gage and dermitron.
  • Purges plating solutions periodically by carbon treating and dummy plating and maintains plating solution cleanliness.
  • Train other operators as required
  • Performs other tasks of equal or lesser skill as required.
