About The Position

The Process Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining training programs that support safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of gold processing facilities. This position works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Metallurgy, Process Engineering, Safety, and site leadership to ensure employees have the knowledge, skills, and practical competency required to operate and maintain processing equipment and systems to established standards. The Process Trainer will provide a strong field presence, combining classroom instruction, hands-on practical training, on-the-job coaching, competency assessments, and procedure development. The role will support the full processing plant lifecycle, including commissioning, start-up, steady-state operations, shutdowns, maintenance activities, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5+ years of experience in mineral processing, preferably within a gold-processing operation.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in one or more major mineral-processing circuits, with broad exposure to overall plant operations strongly preferred.
  • Practical experience working with both processing operations and maintenance activities in a mining or mineral-processing environment.
  • Experience training operators, maintenance technicians, or other technical personnel in an industrial, mining, or processing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and teach operating procedures, maintenance procedures, process flowsheets, P&IDs, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Experience conducting practical competency assessments and qualifying employees on critical tasks.
  • Working knowledge of process equipment, instrumentation, control systems, pumps, motors, conveyors, crushers, mills, tanks, piping systems, valves, and related processing equipment.
  • Understanding of gold-processing principles, process variables, metallurgical performance, equipment reliability, and the relationship between operating practices and plant performance.
  • Strong understanding of industrial safety practices, lockout/tagout, confined-space requirements, permit-to-work systems, and other critical controls applicable to processing operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with frontline employees, supervisors, maintenance personnel, engineers, metallurgists, and site leadership.
  • Strong communication, presentation, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a field-based processing environment and perform hands-on training around operating equipment.
  • Ability to adapt training to employees with varying levels of experience, technical knowledge, and learning styles.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Process Technology, Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Mechanical/Electrical Maintenance, Industrial Technology, Mining, Engineering, Adult Education, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Recognized training, instructional-design, adult-learning, or competency-assessment certification is an asset.
  • Experience supporting plant commissioning, start-up, shutdown, troubleshooting, or major maintenance activities is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver comprehensive training programs for gold processing operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Provide training on processing plant systems, equipment, operating procedures, maintenance activities, control systems, and safe work practices.
  • Deliver both Operations and Maintenance training, ensuring employees understand how equipment operates, how it should be maintained, and how operating practices affect equipment reliability and metallurgical performance.
  • Train personnel on key gold-processing circuits and equipment, which may include crushing, grinding, classification, gravity recovery, flotation, leaching, carbon-in-pulp/carbon-in-leach, adsorption, elution, electrowinning, gold room operations, tailings, water systems, reagent systems, pumping, filtration, and associated utilities.
  • Develop and maintain training materials, operator guides, lesson plans, job aids, standard operating procedures, work instructions, and competency assessment tools.
  • Conduct practical, field-based training and coaching at operating equipment and process areas.
  • Assess employee competency through written, verbal, practical, and task-based evaluations.
  • Identify competency gaps and develop targeted training and refresher programs to address them.
  • Train operators in normal, abnormal, upset, emergency, and shutdown/start-up operating conditions.
  • Train maintenance personnel in equipment fundamentals, isolation requirements, equipment-specific maintenance practices, troubleshooting, and safe return-to-service requirements.
  • Work with Operations and Maintenance supervisors to establish and maintain competency requirements for critical tasks and positions.
  • Support new-hire onboarding, job qualification, cross-training, refresher training, and advancement programs.
  • Participate in commissioning and start-up activities by developing training plans and preparing operators and maintainers for new or modified equipment and processes.
  • Review operating and maintenance procedures to ensure they accurately reflect current plant conditions, equipment, controls, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering and Metallurgy to translate process knowledge, metallurgical objectives, and process-control strategies into practical training.
  • Incorporate lessons learned from operating events, equipment failures, incidents, near misses, process deviations, and root-cause investigations into training programs.
  • Promote operating practices that maximize gold recovery, throughput, equipment availability, reliability, and overall plant performance.
  • Train employees on process-control systems, instrumentation, alarms, interlocks, permissives, and appropriate operator responses where applicable.
  • Reinforce critical controls related to safety, environmental compliance, process integrity, equipment protection, and product security.
  • Maintain accurate training records, competency matrices, qualifications, certifications, and employee training histories.
  • Monitor training effectiveness using competency results, operational performance, safety observations, maintenance trends, and feedback from supervisors.
  • Conduct field observations and coaching sessions to verify that employees are applying training correctly in the workplace.
  • Support the development and implementation of standardized work practices across processing departments.
  • Participate in continuous-improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, reliability, safety, recovery, and workforce capability.
  • Ensure training activities comply with company policies, site standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable mining and occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Serve as a subject-matter resource for processing operations and maintenance training and provide guidance to supervisors and technical personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned by site leadership.
