About The Position

The Process Technology Faculty Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction at the college level, promoting student understanding and academic success through engaging and effective teaching practices. Key responsibilities include developing course materials, assessing student performance, and maintaining a supportive learning environment. The instructor will stay current in trends, contribute to curriculum planning, and may participate in departmental or institutional committees as needed. Faculty are expected to actively contribute to the academic mission of BridgeValley Community and Technical College through teaching excellence, student support, and ongoing engagement in institutional initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Process Technology, Chemical Technology, or a related field
  • Extensive industry credentials, relevant certifications, and significant hands-on experience in process operations or related fields may be substituted for formal education
  • Strong skills in strategic planning, communication, staff supervision, budget management, and collaboration with community and industry partners are essential
  • Familiarity with current teaching methodologies, pedagogical theories, and best practices.
  • Understanding of curriculum development, assessment standards, and accreditation requirements in higher education.
  • Proficiency with educational technology tools and learning management systems (e.g., Banner, Early Alert systems).
  • Awareness of institutional and state policies related to academic standards and student support.
  • Strong instructional skills
  • Proficiency in leveraging educational technology and software to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Effective classroom management and student engagement strategies to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, for interaction with students, colleagues, and administration.
  • Skill in designing and implementing assessments that measure learning outcomes and support continuous improvement.
  • Academic advising and mentoring skills to guide student success and persistence.
  • Ability to create inclusive, supportive, and motivating learning environments for a diverse student population.
  • Flexibility to adapt instructional strategies to different learning styles and course delivery formats (in-person, online, hybrid).
  • Ability to analyze student performance data and use results to inform teaching strategies.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities to balance teaching, advising, and service responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in assigned courses, using in-person, online, or hybrid formats as scheduled by the College and Division Dean.
  • Fulfill assigned teaching load in accordance with institutional policy (C-07 OP Faculty Teaching and Office Hour Load).
  • Maintain regular on-campus office hours to provide academic advising, mentoring, and support that promote student retention and success.
  • Ensure timely publication of course syllabi, submission of grades, and completion of required course documentation by institutional deadlines.
  • Advise, mentor, and recruit students in support of program enrollment, retention, and completion goals.
  • Participate in professional development activities and apply insights to improve teaching effectiveness and support the College’s strategic plan.
  • Complete course and program-level assessment activities to support continuous improvement and compliance with academic standards.
  • Maintain a minimum on-campus presence of 25 hours per week, including instructional and office hours, with remaining weekly hours devoted to course development, research, workforce development, student engagement, and planning/evaluation activities.
  • Attend and actively participate in departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and events, including student registration, orientation, and commencement ceremonies.
  • Contribute to departmental and institutional initiatives that advance the mission, vision, and goals of the college.
  • Prepare and submit required documentation and reports to support accreditation and compliance with regulatory bodies, including the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the U.S. Department of Education, and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC).
  • Ensure that instructional practices, documentation, and reporting align with institutional and academic standards.
  • Support the quality, stability, and sustainability of assigned academic programs through active participation in curriculum development, student recruitment, and program review.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to strengthen program viability and align offerings with workforce and community needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the mission, vision, and goals of the College.
