This position successfully sets-up and operates injection molding machines. Creates and/or modifies molding machine parameters/processes from existing saved or documented conditions to produce quality products. Installs pre-assembled molds and removes them from designated injection molding machines. The Process Technician will also set up appropriate ancillary equipment to support successful injection molding. The Process Technician records dimensional and visual part inspection data and/or observations into the manufacturing into ERP system.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree preferred with knowledge of the plastics industry.
  • 2 – 5 years’ experience operating injection molding machines
  • Use standard measuring/inspection devices (micrometer, gauge pins, microscope, caliper, optical inspection equipment) for product quality assurance purposes.
  • Understand and be able to apply ISO 9001 concepts.
  • Understand and be able to apply SPC (Statistical Process Control) concepts.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business and technical procedures.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Nice To Haves

  • Has knowledge of Injection Molding Machines (IMM) in a high volume, high material mix environment to manufacture medical and industrial components.

Responsibilities

  • Establish highly repeatable decoupled molding processes utilizing all machine control functionality and ensure consistent processing parameters are maintained to allow unattended manufacturing of quality parts.
  • Setup, Install, and remove molds as required.
  • Changes out raw material as required by schedule. Typically, this may entail swapping the feed tube from one Gaylord to another acceptable Gaylord or changing material storage hoppers at the press.
  • Maximizes clamp and ejector functions and safely determines settings utilizing the AI clamp and ejector functionality where available.
  • Responsible for operation and/or programming of ancillary equipment to support production processes.
  • Creates optimized process parameters utilizing relative viscosity curves, gate freeze studies and other tools to establish new processes or existing parts to enhance quality.
  • Works with engineering and quality assurance personnel to establish appropriate material processing parameters, achieving the highest quality parts possible.
  • Responsible for overall cleanliness of machines and surrounding work areas.
