About The Position

Provides for the safe, effective supervision of personnel, daily operations and maintenance of MSD treatment plants and pumping stations. This role involves planning, organizing, and directing all activities affecting the operation of the assigned region and on a given shift. The supervisor implements procedures for process operation to ensure compliance with MSD and other regulatory standards, and to maintain a safe working environment. Key responsibilities include managing SAP work orders, developing preventive maintenance schedules, supporting and motivating employees, establishing effective process control strategies, arranging for procurement of materials, coordinating equipment availability for repair, reviewing laboratory results, and providing feedback for process adjustments. The role also involves project work in the design, review, and acceptance of treatment center and pump station upgrades, replacements, and construction, as well as providing start-up and operator training. The supervisor responds to requests for assistance, investigates unusual situations, and initiates corrective action.

Requirements

Associate Degree in Environmental Science or a related field
Five or more years experience in wastewater treatment, an industrial setting or a related field
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Must have an acceptable and reliable means for being contacted during off-duty hours.
Must have safe work and driving habits.
Must possess a Class III Kentucky Wastewater Treatment License or ability to obtain through state reciprocity within 6 months; or must have a Class II Kentucky Wastewater Treatment License and must be able to meet the requirements of 401 KAR 11:030 to obtain a Class III Kentucky Wastewater Treatment License within 6 months.
Knowledge of wastewater treatment principles, practices, laws and regulations
Knowledge of wastewater treatment equipment maintenance
Skill in operating a PC and associated Windows environment software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Skill in managing multiple priorities
Ability to supervise a diverse workforce
Ability to resolve problems
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks
Ability to work under adverse working conditions such as inclement weather
Ability to work effectively under heavy, unpredictable surges in workload
Ability to work outdoors
Ability to work 24 hour emergency response, various shifts and weekends.

Responsibilities

Schedules and provides direct overview of Operations & Maintenance staff.
Plans, organizes and directs all activities affecting the operation of the assigned region and on a given shift.
Implements procedures for the process operation of an assigned facility to assure compliance with MSD and other regulatory standards to assure a safe working environment.
Ensures SAP work orders are initiated, updated with reliable information and closed in a timely manner.
Develops and coordinates preventive maintenance schedules and assignments.
Provides support and motivation to employees.
Establishes and implements effective process control strategies for treatment centers to ensure efficient and environmentally sound operating practices.
Arranges for procurement and delivery of materials and supplies.
Coordinates availability of process equipment for repair in order to minimize impact on the process.
Reviews treatment center laboratory sample results on a daily basis in order to determine efficient process parameters and compliance with permit requirements.
Provides feedback to operators for adjustments to the wastewater treatment process.
Performs projects in the design, review, coordination and acceptance of treatment center and pump station upgrade, replacement and/or construction.
Provides start-up and operator training.
Responds to requests for assistance by MSD administrative staff for performance of special projects.
Responds to unusual situations, makes investigations and initiates corrective action.
