About The Position

The Process Specialist - Equipment Trainer is responsible for ensuring plant personnel are adequately trained to perform their duties and responsibilities within the process plant. This role involves developing and leading onboarding processes, providing task-specific equipment training, and managing training records. Additionally, the specialist supports the Permit to Work Officer, manages the plant cyanide code, and oversees gas detection equipment. Other responsibilities include acting as a representative for contractors, leading incident investigations, and identifying areas for plant improvement. The role also involves facilitating training sessions for new hires and operational teams, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience and skills related to plant operations, including crushing, grinding, flotation, CIL, elution, and mobile support equipment.
  • Experience working around mills, conveyors, pumps, and chemicals.
  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience in LOTOTO (Lockout/Tagout/Tryout) and Permit to Work systems in the mining industry (or similar heavy industrial type industry).
  • Strong safety background.
  • Good understanding of energy types and isolation procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the two-week onboarding process for new employees, covering plant layout, circuit overviews, equipment location, and operator responsibilities with an emphasis on housekeeping.
  • Provide all task training for equipment used throughout the process plant, including initial training for new employees and refresher training for existing personnel.
  • Manage equipment training records, both on paper and in the INX system, including 5000-23 forms.
  • Support the Permit to Work Officer by ensuring Permit to Work systems and procedures are in place and complied with, and providing input on training for maintenance, contractors, and operators.
  • Develop and maintain the Permit to Work System to minimize impact on production while ensuring safety and environmental control.
  • Ensure all plant items and isolation points are adequately identified and isolation registration sheets are available.
  • Implement and manage the plant cyanide code, including preparing for the triennial audit process.
  • Manage gas detection equipment, including portable monitors, calibration, preventative maintenance, and records.
  • Update and manage personnel training records in INX, including 5000-23s.
  • Act as a representative when dealing with contractors, and coordinate and manage consultants and resources as needed.
  • Lead ICAMs (Incident Cause Analysis Method) for the processing department with a focus on safety.
  • Help organize and assess the process risk assessment each year for the plant.
  • Attend trainings/development programs and perform other duties required by the company.
  • Lead or facilitate training presentations.
  • Identify areas for plant improvement.
  • Support confined space safety, procedures, and compliance processes.
  • Facilitate training sessions for new hires (onboarding) and operational/process teams, delivering relevant safety information, best practices, and procedural updates.
