About The Position

The Process Plant Lead (Mechanical) provides technical leadership and owner oversight for engineering associated with the Copper World Process Plant. The role is responsible for ensuring the design, procurement, construction support, and commissioning activities performed by the EP and CM contractor and equipment vendors meet project objectives for safety, operability, maintainability, reliability, quality, schedule, and cost. As part of the Owner's Team, the Process Plant Lead serves as the primary engineering authority for the concentrator and associated process facilities while working closely with Engineering, Construction, Operations, Project Controls, Procurement, and Commissioning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in large mining or mineral processing projects.
  • Experience with Owner's Teams and IPD project delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of crushing, grinding, flotation, concentrate handling, tailings, and plant utilities.
  • Experience supporting projects through feasibility, detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Demonstrated leadership in multidisciplinary project environments.
  • Employee must be able to prove that he/she has a current and valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration preferred.
  • Experience with concentrators greater than 40,000 STPD preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for all mechanical aspects of the process plant.
  • Ensure engineering solutions align with project objectives and Owner standards.
  • Review and approve mechanical engineering deliverables prior to Owner acceptance.
  • Ensure consistency with Project Design Criteria and Engineering Standards.
  • Lead engineering decisions supporting project execution.
  • Oversee engineering associated with: Crushing, Grinding (SAG & Ball Mill), Flotation, Regrind, Thickening, Concentrate Handling, Tailings Systems (collaboration), Process Water Systems, Reagent Systems, Plant Utilities, Tanks and Vessels, Pumps, Compressors, Piping Systems, Mechanical Packages, Material Handling Equipment.
  • Lead Owner reviews of: General Arrangements, Equipment Layouts, Equipment Lists, Mechanical Data Sheets, Mechanical Specifications, Piping Specifications, Vendor Drawings, Pipe Stress Issues, Equipment Access, Maintenance Access, Lifting Studies, Constructability Reviews, Model Reviews, HAZOP participation, Value Engineering Reviews.
  • Review technical bid evaluations.
  • Participate in equipment selection.
  • Review vendor documents.
  • Resolve vendor technical issues.
  • Support factory acceptance testing when required.
  • Ensure equipment complies with Owner requirements.
  • Coordinate interfaces between: Process Engineering, Civil, Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls, Construction, Operations, Commissioning, Procurement.
  • Ensure design changes are coordinated across all disciplines.
  • Provide engineering support during construction by: Resolving field technical issues, Reviewing RFIs, Supporting NCR resolution, Reviewing field changes, Supporting construction planning, Assisting with mechanical completion planning.
  • Support: Mechanical Completion, Pre-commissioning, Commissioning, Start-up, Performance Testing, Handover to Operations.
  • Ensure equipment is maintainable, operable, and capable of meeting production requirements.
  • Promote a Zero Harm culture.
  • Participate in HAZOPs and design risk reviews.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable safety standards.
  • Identify technical risks early and implement mitigation plans.
  • Ensure compliance with Owner and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability and maintainability.
  • Standardize equipment where practical.
  • Support value engineering initiatives.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technical specialists.
