The Process Operator will report to the Process Operator Team Lead and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of product to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals and objectives of UBE. This role involves maintaining a continuous overview of plant operation and performance, participating in plant operation troubleshooting, and operating safely to support achievement of production targets, yield objectives and product quality specifications at minimum cost. The operator will promptly and accurately communicate plant problems, continuously review plant operations, and anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner. They will operate and monitor assigned areas in accordance with quality, statutory, environmental, and safety standards, and maintain compliance with the ISO 9001 standard for finished product methanol. The role also includes participating in the development of systems to meet departmental goals, maintaining knowledge of Responsible Care ethics and safe work standards, and participating in incident reporting and hazard identification systems. Additionally, the operator will monitor chemical and supply inventories, maintain emergency response skills, participate on Fire Brigade and Hazmat teams, and maintain knowledge of emergency response procedures and equipment. Site security outside of normal business hours is also a responsibility, as is authorizing work permits and isolation certificates. The operator will participate in incident investigations, assist in developing corrective actions, and contribute to the development of new procedures. Daily, monthly, and routine operating procedures must be completed, along with maintaining knowledge of water, effluent, and specifications for assigned plant areas. Interpreting laboratory test results, sampling, testing, and analyzing process streams are key functions. The role contributes to the department's long-term development by mentoring and training less experienced team members and ensuring the accuracy of shift logs and documentation. Overtime may be required to maintain minimum staffing, and proper logs of equipment conditions are essential for shift over. Assisting in the development of isolation packages for maintenance and diagnosing maintenance-related issues are also part of the role, as is performing common operator maintenance tasks like cleaning, inspection, and lubrication. Coordination with the Board Operator and Maintenance Technician is crucial for timely work completion, and monitoring work in assigned areas to ensure compliance with the permit-to-work system is required. Participation in projects to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs is expected, and all business will be conducted in a manner that supports Responsible Care® ethics. Awareness of all controlled documents relating to this position is also a responsibility.
