About The Position
Chevron Phillips Chemical is hiring part-time Process Operator Co-ops for the Spring 2027 semester at its Cedar Bayou facility in Baytown, Texas. Co-ops work 19 hours per week, with flexible hours to accommodate class schedules. Course credit hours are established through the student’s college. The co-op does not imply a guarantee of permanent full-time employment for either the company or the student. Process Operator Co-ops shadow operations positions and have the opportunity to learn and help monitor production process variables and ensure production equipment operates safely and reliably. They support Environmental, Health and Safety processes by completing daily activities in accordance with applicable regulations and policies, following safe operating practices, and maintaining a safe working environment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be in the final semester of a Process Technology program and graduate with a Process Technology associate’s degree in May 2027.
- Able to walk, climb stairs and ladders to a height of 100 feet, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Able to enter confined spaces.
- Able to work in various adverse weather conditions.
- Able to listen to and follow instructions.
- Able to read and communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically in English.
- Able to follow plant safety guidelines and policies, including wearing fire-retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
Responsibilities
- Promptly respond to process alarms and constraints.
- Learn to monitor plant equipment performance and process conditions, read flow meters and temperature and pressure gauges, and take routine readings on process equipment.
- Learn to troubleshoot plant process issues effectively.
- Follow the Tenets of Operations, COO/OD, and Life Saving Rules.
- Perform housekeeping in the work area.
- Complete regulatory and operating training.
- Observe Management of Change reviews, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, and Process Hazard Analysis.
- Document relevant information and perform shift turnover according to unit management expectations.
