About The Position

The Column Shift Lead will oversee all production activities under the direction of the Distillation Process Manager; duties include assisting the safe and efficient setup of multiple separation towers and being accountable for site monitoring of pressures, valves, pumps, and hoses.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required
  • Ability to obtain EPA 608 Certification within 6-months of employment
  • Ability to obtain Forklift certification
  • Possess a valid Driver's License
  • Process Technology Degree or prior experience in a Process Operator role
  • Excellent math skills
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Microsoft word/excel required
  • Experience in manufacturing, or specialty gas industry
  • Understanding of basic engineering, warehouse, and environmental services
  • Understanding of distillation and HMI operation of distillation columns

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Gas Chromatography
  • Experience with Chemical Blending and Transferring
  • Experience Driving ISO/Tanker containers using a Yard Hostler desired
  • Previous experience operating distillation columns

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Distillation Process Manager, this role will lead multiple process operators across 2 shifts:
  • Assigning daily job assignments to employees in their respective area
  • Scheduling equipment usage
  • Ensuring employees are properly trained to perform the essential functions of their roles including operating equipment and following company policies and SOPs
  • Providing a collaborative/team environment through ongoing coaching and mentoring
  • Responsible for very thorough and detailed pass down of work assignments to the next shift to ensure no breaks in key priorities
  • Acts as an ambassador and ensures adherence for all team/personnel in observance of safe practices and good housekeeping
  • Drive a team-focused and professional environment through both words and actions
  • Subject matter experts on distillation process and purging NCGs
  • Takes initiative to troubleshoot and solve problems as they arise
  • Utilizes all available resources to meet the production schedule and productivity goals
  • Provides direct and daily feedback to the responsible Supervisor regarding any personnel, equipment, safety, or productivity problems
  • Support Planning Lead on providing constant feedstock for the distillation columns and blending final products
  • Provides data as required to track the teams' progress towards achieving department and company goals and objectives
  • Instructs and trains new operators; procedural revision and required regulatory training
  • Understands and follows GMP guidelines and ISO 9001 where applicable
  • Read Blend sheets and record all information required, both written and electronically
  • Safely handle and transfer flammable materials
  • Operate various pieces of process equipment related to the specific job function such as batch tanks, pumps, compressors, etc.
  • Routinely works from formulas, charts, tables, and schedules
  • Monitor and control temperatures, rotating equipment, pressures, mass, and volumetric flow
  • Responsible for maintaining proper records to avoid efficiency losses and cross-contamination of other products
  • Performs routine inspection of equipment, such as pumps, hoses, compressors, chillers, etc., and records data as required
  • Replaces damaged or worn parts such as changing filters and other minor maintenance tasks as needed/requested.
  • Report any faults, site, and maintenance issues to Maintenance to ensure site safety and product quality.
  • Encourage and participate in a Health and Safety culture to ensure a safe practicing environment.
  • Responsible for ensuring that quality control is implemented on a constant basis.
  • Personally, follow all operational processes and carry out quality control checks and ensure the close inspection of the work activities of the team.
  • Reinforce the importance of the Awareness policy to site personnel, to keep smooth and safe running of workshop operations.
  • Ensures that product is processed meeting established regulatory, customer and A-Gas internal requirements and specifications.
  • Sample product throughout the shift to ensure on-spec product.
  • Follows Quality protocol concerning required documentation of verifications and the documentation, notification and handling of nonconformities.
  • Additional duties/ad hoc project as assigned/requested by management
