Principal/Process Manufacturing Engineer - Level 2 or 3
About The Position
Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is currently seeking Process Manufacturing Engineers also known as Energetics Engineer (Level 2) or Principal (Level 3) to join our Process Engineering Rocket Motor Manufacturing team. This position will be located at our Bacchus facility located in Magna, Utah. The role involves developing and improving manufacturing processes for solid rocket motors and other energetic products, emphasizing a strong safety culture and continuous improvement using Lean Six Sigma methodology. Responsibilities include performing root cause and corrective action investigations, creating Build-to-Packages, authoring and updating shop floor planning, preparing technical presentations, monitoring production with SPC tools, troubleshooting issues, and leading the implementation of new or modified tooling or equipment.
Requirements
- Self-Starter that takes initiative to complete tasks and assignments with little supervision
- Good problem-solving skills and strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience working with energetics, rubbers, composites, metals, adhesives, primers, and coatings
- Good organization and multi-tasking skills
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing Techniques
- Interpreting blueprints and specifications, GD&T standards
- Proficient in 3D modeling software
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Statistical Process Controls (SPC)
- Basic Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience writing electronic shop instructions
- B.S. degree in a STEM discipline plus 2 years of experience (for Level 2) or 5 years of experience (for Level 3). 0 years of experience with a master’s degree (for Level 2) or 3 years of experience with a master’s degree (for Level 3).
- Experience in solid rocket motor manufacturing (propellant mixing, propellant casting, rocket motor final assembly, propellant-to-insulator case bond systems, etc.)
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Manufacturing Planning and MRP/ERP (Costpoint, SAP, etc) software
- Experience with PLM Software (Teamcenter, Windchill, etc.)
- Experience with using 3D modeling software (Solidworks, NX, Pro-E, etc.)
- Experience working with Aerospace standards and the implementation of standards across cross-functional teams
Responsibilities
- Develop and improve manufacturing processes for the production of solid rocket motors and other energetic products
- Demonstrate and instill a strong safety culture in daily operations
- Continuously improving manufacturing processes using Lean Six Sigma methodology
- Performing root cause and corrective action (RCCA) investigations to permanently eliminate defects using root cause analysis tools
- Working with concurrent engineering team to create Build-to-Packages (i.e. engineering and planning documents)
- Authoring, updating and reviewing shop floor planning
- Preparing and presenting technical presentations to leadership and external customers for review and approval
- Monitoring production events and utilizing SPC tools to ensure process control
- Developing and incorporating process improvements, disseminating lessons learned to team and ensuring improvements are incorporated
- Troubleshooting production, tooling, and facility issues and implementing solutions
- Leading design, checkout, qualification and implementation of new or modified tooling or equipment
