About The Position

Working as part of the Business Intelligence and Data Strategy (BIDS) team and reporting to the Fundraising Data Analyst, the Process Improvement & Reporting Intern plays a key role in improving workflows across the organization. This role focuses on process improvement through business analytics and AI-enabled workflow implementation, helping modernize processes, reduce manual effort, and support data-driven decision making. The intern will collaborate closely with the BIDS team and stakeholders to analyze current processes, design improvements, and implement scalable solutions using analytics, automation, and emerging AI capabilities. This person will also work closely with the Fundraising Data Analyst to manage the reporting queue, complete report edits, and produce new reports to meet business needs, utilizing the CRM and Microsoft SQL Server. Interning at Riley Children's Foundation offers a first-hand glimpse of how the Foundation ensures that children have access to exceptional healthcare by funding pediatric research, education and care. We at Riley Children's Foundation raise funds statewide and steward assets for the kids.

Requirements

  • Preferred Majors: Business, Business Analytics, Industrial Engineering, Data Analytics, Data Science, Informatics, Computer Science, or similar majors would find this internship beneficial to their career goals and would most likely possess the skills needed to perform assigned projects and tasks.
  • Interest in automation, AI, or workflow improvement (hands-on experience a plus, not required)
  • Knowledge of/experience with relational databases
  • Interest/experience with Salesforce, SQL, Microsoft Office
  • Problem-solving abilities

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing workflows to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and manual work.
  • Document current-state processes and help design future-state workflows that improve speed, quality, and user experience.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of AI-enabled or automated solutions where appropriate.
  • Partner with BIDS team members to pilot, test, and refine new tools and workflows.
  • Track and communicate process improvement outcomes such as time saved, reduced rework, or improved data usability.
  • Create clear documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and training materials to support adoption of new or improved processes.
  • Build queries, reports, and exports using tools such as the CRM’s reporting function, SQL (SSMS/SQL Server), and SSRS to support fundraising and strategic business goals.
  • Partner with stakeholders on needs and requirements.
  • Partner with the Fundraising Data Analyst in documenting report-related processes and data models.
  • Working with the Prospect Development Manager, assist with the entry of research data for key prospects (prospective donors) to help ensure our fundraisers have data which can help them cultivate the best relationship they can with these prospects.
  • Provide project support for the team, including documenting needs, coordinating/delivering status updates, tracking progress, and training.
  • Participate in Riley Children’s Foundation events as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Intern may be assigned projects from the wider Riley Children’s Foundation team. The People Operations Manager will identify additional projects and shadowing opportunities aligned with the intern’s professional interests. Throughout the internship, the People Operations Manager will guide the intern through professional and career development activities to support a well-rounded understanding of the organization.
