About The Position

The Process Improvement Nurse - Children's Surgery Program role involves establishing and supervising processes such as performance improvement and clinical documentation to ensure optimal excellence in patient services. This position evaluates practice based on patient outcomes, cost-benefit analysis of care, and patient access to healthcare. It also contributes to internal strategic planning and implements continuous quality improvement programs. The nurse serves as the BCH Children’s Surgery Performance Improvement (PI) Nurse, responsible for data collection, analysis, and performance improvement activities for patients under 18, supporting the American College of Surgeons Children’s Surgery Verification Level I Programs at both BCH San Francisco and BCH Oakland. These programs are part of the BCH Perioperative Department, operating as a collaborative, multidisciplinary partnership focused on advancing pediatric surgical quality and safety, guided by ACS Level 1 standards. The PI Nurse partners with the Children’s Surgery Program Manager to lead initiatives aimed at optimizing patient outcomes, identifying safety and system issues, and implementing evidence-based practice improvements. This role demands strong clinical judgment, creativity, organization, and prioritization skills. The PI Nurse collaborates with pediatric physicians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary teams to support system-wide and cross-bay performance improvement through project coordination and execution.

Responsibilities
