About The Position

SEL is seeking a Plastics Engineering Technician , to join our Plastics Engineering team in Lewiston, Idaho . This hands-on role is critical to delivering custom injection molded production to all SEL production sites . In this role, you will collaborate closely with production to facilitate the timely change-over and start-up of injection molding machines and support equipment . You will support and lead troubleshooting efforts that resolve quality events and identify root cause . You will perform new tooling evaluations and new process development , includ ing automation on machines , and completion of first article inspections . There will be opportunities to develop and utilize robotic programming skills, create new automated inspection processes, troubleshoot various automated assembly cells and secondary operation automation . You will be required to perform process improvements, collect data, create and complete documentation, while following World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles. Requirements

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with the manufacturing equipment relevant to the role
  • Basic computer skills including familiarity with windows-based programs such as Microsoft productivity tools (e.g., Excel, Word, SQL)
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience troubleshooting process and machinery problems
  • Experience writing and/or conducting Design of Experiments
  • Experience programming and maintaining automated manufacturing equipment and machinery
  • Experience preparing materials cross-sections for microscopic analysis
  • Working knowledge of basic analog and digital electronics

Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate technical support to manufacturing and clarify production process specification requirements to ensure accurate and efficient production.
  • Assist in measuring and improving yield, efficiency, and capacity of manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Document, modify, and maintain manufacturing related procedures.
  • Manage the procurement of assembly process tools.
  • Train operators and support staff as needed.
  • Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
