About The Position

At Flexible Metal, we're looking for a driven, detail-oriented Process Engineering Intern who's eager to gain hands-on experience improving real manufacturing processes. In this role, you'll help identify and implement process improvements on the production floor, turning data and observation into measurable efficiency gains. Requirements

  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, lean principles, or industrial systems (relevant coursework acceptable in lieu of work experience).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with time studies, process mapping, and workflow analysis to identify bottlenecks and process improvement opportunities.
  • Support implementation of lean manufacturing initiatives, including 5S, kaizen events, standard work development, and waste reduction projects.
  • Collect, analyze, and report production data related to cycle times, scrap rates, equipment performance, and labor efficiency.
  • Assist in developing and updating process documentation, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA) for quality and process-related issues.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and maintenance teams to support engineering trials and process validations.
  • Assist with the design, testing, and implementation of fixtures, tools, or process layout changes as assigned.
