About The Position

The Process Engineering Intern will work directly alongside experienced engineers and the Process Engineering Manager to support high-precision parts manufacturing. This hands-on internship offers direct exposure to advanced manufacturing technologies across grinding, wire EDM (wirecut), automated inspection, deburring, and surface coating operations. You will gain practical experience in data collection, process mapping, root cause analysis, and basic automation validation in an active production environment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (Junior or Senior standing preferred).
  • Possesses basic knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and CAD software (SolidWorks or AutoCAD).
  • Familiarity with Excel for data analysis.
  • Strong mechanical curiosity.
  • Comfortable spending significant time on the shop floor.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates willingness to strictly adhere to shop-floor safety guidelines and PPE protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting line-side cycle time studies and workflow mapping across grinding, wirecut, deburring, coating, and inspection cells to identify bottlenecks and capacity constraints.
  • Gathering and analyzing production defect, scrap, and dimensional measurement data to support process capability studies (Cp/Cpk) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) initiatives.
  • Assisting engineers in setting up, testing, and collecting gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R) data for automated vision and metrology systems.
  • Drafting and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), visual work instructions, and tooling setup sheets for shop-floor operators.
  • Participating in Kaizen events and assist engineers in investigating scrap events using 5-Why and Fishbone analyses.
