Process Engineer - (pre-FEED/FEED)

About The Position

This position is open for consideration of contract or an employee position. The role involves working on a variety of heavy oil projects for domestic and international clients, with project scopes ranging from FEED studies, modular packages, and full turnkey EPFC projects. The engineer will acquire in-depth technical expertise in heavy oil processing, lead and mentor junior engineers, and become a critical decision-maker within a multidisciplinary team. The role also includes developing client relationships, gaining practical experience by overseeing fabrication and assembly at Propak, Airdrie facilities, and traveling for startup and commissioning support. Mentorship from senior process engineers, supervisors, and managers will be provided for technical development and advancement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer registered and in good standing with Alberta Professional Engineers, and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or eligible for membership.
  • 5+ years of experience in heavy oil processing with specific experience in SAGD, wellpads, and water treating required.
  • EPC and/or Fabricator experience.
  • Excellent communications skills required to interact with client and internal team members.
  • Experience working with HYSYS and other engineering software (BR&E ProMax, VMGSim Symmetry, Flarenet).
  • Experience with typical process deliverables (PFD, HMB, P&ID, Line List, Design Basis Memorandum, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Control Narratives, Datasheets, Hydraulics, Line Sizing).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing alternative processes in Glycol Dehydration, Sweetening, Mechanical Refrigeration, Oil Processing, Oil Refining and Compression is considered an asset.
  • Experience in sizing process equipment is an asset (separators, treaters, FWKO, heat exchangers, PSVs, flare systems, control valves, pumps, reciprocating, rotary screw, and centrifugal compressors).

  • Work on a variety of heavy oil projects for domestic and international clients.
  • Acquire in-depth technical expertise in heavy oil processing.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers, including delegation, checking, and authentication of professional work products.
  • Become a critical decision maker while working with a multidisciplinary team of engineering and design leads.
  • Develop and build relationships with clients.
  • Gain practical experience by overseeing the fabrication and assembly of your projects in the Propak, Airdrie facilities.
  • Travel domestically and internationally for startup and commissioning support.
  • Receive mentorship from senior process engineers, supervisors, and managers to support your technical development and role as a lead process engineer.
