About The Position

The Process Engineer improves the safety, quality, reliability, throughput, and cost performance of assigned manufacturing processes. The role serves as the technical owner for designated production lines and leads data-driven process improvements, standardization, equipment optimization, trials, and capital initiatives. The Process Engineer establishes process controls and standard work, leads troubleshooting and improvement efforts, supports trials and scale-up activities, trains employees on new and revised processes, and communicates findings and recommendations to plant leadership. The position operates with a high degree of day-to-day independence within established standards, seeking guidance for unfamiliar, higher-risk, or strategically significant decisions. It is responsible for delivering measurable, sustainable improvements through sound engineering analysis and disciplined execution. The position is based at the Bellwood Manufacturing Facility in Bellwood, Virginia, and partners with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Research and Development, Engineering, suppliers, and technical partners to improve manufacturing performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience to perform the essential functions.
  • At least 2 years of engineering experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, or process-improvement environments.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and strong technical, analytical, and structured problem-solving skills, including experience with root-cause analysis methods.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, process controls, and Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to analyze operational data, identify process relationships, and develop practical engineering recommendations.
  • Ability to apply structured problem-solving, root-cause analysis, and basic statistical methods to manufacturing issues.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for documenting technical findings and presenting recommendations across organizational levels.
  • Ability to organize technical work, maintain accurate documentation, and manage multiple engineering priorities.
  • Accountability, collaboration, results orientation, sound decision-making, curiosity, continuous-improvement mindset, and planning and alignment skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in printing, packaging, nylon film, blown-film extrusion, or film converting.
  • Experience supporting continuous-improvement or Lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Experience supporting capital projects in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with process optimization, manufacturing equipment, or product commercialization.
  • Experience with manufacturing data-visualization tools, enterprise-resource-planning systems, CAD software, PLC programming, digital production-management platforms, or related manufacturing systems.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain subject-matter expertise for assigned production lines and critical assets.
  • Coordinate initiatives addressing safety, quality, productivity, and manufacturing-efficiency losses.
  • Develop, standardize, and maintain manufacturing process standards and controls.
  • Develop and deliver training for new and revised processes; train operations personnel on process principles, standard responses, and recovery procedures.
  • Monitor manufacturing performance data to confirm process stability, identify trends, and detect coaching or corrective-action needs.
  • Build collaborative working relationships with operations personnel.
  • Lead structured troubleshooting of complex process and equipment failures, determine root causes, implement permanent corrective actions, and establish response standards for recurring conditions.
  • Lead engineering evaluations to optimize equipment performance, process capability, and product consistency.
  • Maintain process specifications, operating standards, control plans, and engineering documentation.
  • Plan and execute manufacturing implementation and scale-up of new products, equipment, and processes.
  • Partner across Production, Maintenance, Quality, Research and Development, and Engineering to resolve technical issues and improve plant performance.
  • Support product-quality investigations by identifying process-related causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and technical partners to evaluate manufacturing technologies and recommend plant improvements.
  • Plan and execute process trials, including design of experiments where appropriate.
  • Lead structured problem-solving initiatives using Lean methods, Kaizen events, focused improvement actions, and root-cause analysis techniques.
  • Analyze production losses, downtime, scrap, quality variation, process capability, rate performance, and cost data; prioritize opportunities and present recommendations to plant leadership.
  • Validate and quantify improvement results, then establish control plans, monitoring, and ownership routines to sustain gains.
  • Develop engineering recommendations defining expected operational benefits, implementation requirements, risks, and success measures.
  • Support capital improvement projects from planning through implementation while meeting objectives, schedules, and budgets.
  • Develop project requests, coordinate assigned actions, and work with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Evaluate project feasibility by analyzing process data, defining operating requirements, and documenting anticipated benefits and technical risks.
