About The Position

The Process Engineer is responsible for retrieving and monitoring assigned work center performance, maintaining, updating, and presenting monthly open issues, and participating in continuous improvement opportunities on new/existing equipment. This role uses data to support findings and is responsible for ordering new equipment according to specific group specifications. The engineer will coordinate the development, delivery, and integration of new equipment, working with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with financial and manufacturing/layout requirements. Travel, both locally and internationally, may be required for onsite meetings and acceptance trials. The role also involves attending quote meetings, developing internal costed equipment quotes, reviewing them with management, and supporting the provided costing. Additionally, the Process Engineer will issue RFQs to vendors, develop internal and external packaging requirements, thoroughly review vendor quotes, and manage open issues meetings. Support for customer visits during run-at-rate and assembly plants is also a key responsibility, requiring a professional demeanor and acting as an ambassador for the company. The engineer will develop capital approval packages, manage purchase orders and invoices, and operate within established budgets. Support for the development of in-line plastics processing technologies, such as vibratory welding and injection/comolding, and the creation of lineside documentation are also part of the role. Ensuring that PHSR, ergonomic, and environmental assessments are completed and documented for new equipment is crucial. The position involves investigating potential vendors for new processes and equipment, pursuing non-disclosure agreements, and working with the Mechanisms Group to ensure vendor viability. Coordinating training sessions with equipment vendors for involved departments and personnel is also required. The Process Engineer will participate in or lead various program-related meetings, continuous improvement initiatives, and support J.H.S.C. activities. Collaboration with various departments is essential, and tasks assigned via ECN’s, DMN’s, and other issue logs must be completed with evidence of closure. The role includes developing process-related documentation, such as setup and changeover instructions, operator instructions, process flow diagrams, safety and lockout procedures, and assisting in developing PFMEA’s. Responsibility for developing/maintaining/investigating process capability, conducting time studies, and investigating bottlenecks is also included. The ability to review and revise prepared materials for correctness and clarity is important. Supporting and backing up fellow team members, including becoming knowledgeable in packaging cost development, is expected. A hands-on approach with front-line supervisors, lead hands, and operators is necessary. The role requires working in compliance with IATF16949 and ISO14001 standards and performing other duties as required, including special projects.

Requirements

  • Canadian issued or recognized for equivalency University Degree or College Diploma in Industrial, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering/Technologist.
  • Mechatronics Minor/experience.
  • P. Eng. or PMP designation.
  • Three to Five years working experience in a related field or discipline.
  • Knowledge and experience with plastics in the area of vibratory welding and injection/comolding.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as necessary.
  • Self-motivated, able to make sound judgements and work independently towards successful task completion.
  • Well organized, detail oriented and able to independently plan day-to-day and future work activities.
  • Hands-on job style, being involved and helping fellow Multimatic team members investigate and resolve issues.
  • Ability to read drawings and specifications, understand GD&T, research requirements for clarity and correctness.
  • Shall be responsible for ensuring equipment and processes meet regulatory and corporate Health and Safety, ergonomic and environmental requirements.
  • Good technical report writing abilities.
  • Excellent understanding of email writing/audience etiquette.
  • Excellent problem solving techniques and methods, ability to collect and analyze data, document open issues, prepare action plans and follow-up through to completion.
  • Familiar with CAD programs such as SOLIDWORKS and KeyCreator.
  • Good knowledge of production reporting systems in an automotive/manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to manage tasks in fast paced, dynamic, timing critical work environment while being a team player within the department and division.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Computer literacy and a sound knowledge in MS Office applications and Outlook.
  • Ability to successfully interact with all levels of employees in a multicultural environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Support the development of in-line plastics processing technologies such as vibratory welding and injection/comolding, assist in the creation of lineside documentation to establish a turnkey stabile process would be an asset and if applicable to a project.
  • Knowledge of Core Tools in used in the Automotive Industry would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve and monitor assigned work center performance.
  • Maintain, update, and present monthly open issues.
  • Participate in continuous improvement opportunities on new/existing equipment.

  • Order new equipment to Mechanisms Group Machine, Tooling and Programming specifications.
  • Coordinate the development, delivery, and integration of new equipment with internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure equipment complies with all financial and manufacturing/layout requirements.
  • Travel locally and internationally (as required) to participate in onsite meetings and acceptance trials.
  • Attend quote meetings and/or develop internal detailed costed equipment quotes.
  • Review/revise quotes with management and distribute approved copies.
  • Speak to and support costing provided.
  • Issue RFQ’s to vendors conveying requirements, assembly process steps, adequate specifications and requirements.
  • Address/pursue responses to vendor questions.
  • Develop internal and external packaging requirements with the Packaging Engineer.
  • Thoroughly review vendors quotes and ensure they meet the RFQ requirements.
  • Request clarification as required and challenge/justify cost.
  • Hold and champion open issues meetings internal and external.
  • Schedule, document meeting minutes, assign and follow-up on tasks in various departments.
  • Support customer visits during run at rate and assembly plants (as required) in a highly professional manner.
  • Develop capital approval packages and follow-up on approval.
  • Issue/pursue approval of purchase orders.
  • Seek approval of invoices and work within an established program or divisional budget.
  • Support the development of in-line plastics processing technologies such as vibratory welding and injection/comolding.
  • Assist in the creation of lineside documentation to establish a turnkey stabile process.
  • Ensure that a PHSR, ergonomic and environmental assessment (if applicable) is completed and is documented on new equipment.

  • Complete tasks as assigned by ECN’s, DMN’s, Launch Open Issues, Quality Open Issues, Flawless Launch, etc., providing evidence and acknowledge their closure.
  • Develop process related documentation, such as setup and changeover instructions, operator instructions, process flow diagrams, safety and lockout, dummy parts, process parameters.
  • Assist in developing PFMEA’s.
  • Develop/maintain/investigate process capability with supporting departments.
  • Conduct time studies on manual processes and equipment.

  • Review and revise prepared materials for correctness to minimize errors and ensure clarity.
  • Support and back-up fellow team members as required.
