Process Engineer

MicroVision•Orlando, FL

About The Position

At MicroVision, the Process Engineer helps bring LiDAR and electro-optical sensing products from concept through volume production. The position leads the development, validation, and release of assembly processes for optical, opto-mechanical, and microelectronic components used in LiDAR sensors. It combines technical expertise and structured problem-solving with collaboration across Product Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams to implement robust, scalable production processes. As a member of the Process Engineering team, this role develops and optimizes manufacturing processes for optical assemblies and subassemblies, supporting the process lifecycle from design and qualification through production release and continuous improvement. The role also supports production operations, manufacturing scale-up, and collaboration with Product Engineering to achieve design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Optics/Opto-mechanics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience developing, qualifying, and supporting production assembly processes for optical, opto-mechanical, microelectronic, or precision electromechanical products.
  • Experience taking products from development through production launch and volume manufacturing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience using structured engineering methodologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in automotive manufacturing and standards such as IATF 16949, APQP, or PPAP.
  • Proficiency with imaging and machine vision systems, including cameras, lenses, and lighting.
  • Experience with or training in Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ownership of PFMEA creation and execution.
  • Proven track record of setting up new product lines and ramping them to volume production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assembly process development for products containing optical, opto-mechanical, and microelectronic components from concept through production release.
  • Develop, validate, and improve manufacturing processes to increase yield, reduce cycle time, and enhance product quality.
  • Analyze and optimize electronic and microelectronic assembly processes to improve performance and manufacturability.
  • Develop and refine optical setup and alignment methods to improve precision, repeatability, and process capability.
  • Lead process planning and qualification, including PFDs, block diagrams, PFMEAs, capacity and feasibility studies, specifications, and RFQs.
  • Evaluate, specify, procure, and qualify production equipment, tooling, and fixtures, including vendor selection and qualification.
  • Participate in design reviews and lead manufacturing equipment acceptance and buy-off activities.
  • Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and process-improvement guidance for production operations.
  • Create and maintain BOMs, manufacturing routings, work instructions, and operator training materials.
  • Drive continuous improvement using statistical and analytical methods such as SPC, DOE, and Gauge R&R, as well as Lean and Six Sigma principles.
  • Partner with Product Engineering to ensure designs support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) objectives.
  • Lead capacity expansion and production scaling through process and equipment improvements.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay.
