The Optical Communications segment has evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in any of the following: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering disciplines
  • 2+ years experience in manufacturing environment preferred
  • Track record of delivering results
  • Skill with Structured Problem Solving such as DMAIC or PDCA
  • 1 year of experience with statistical process control fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of data analysis techniques tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Access, SQL, and/or PowerBI).

Responsibilities

  • Identify, advocate prioritization of, and manage process improvement and cost reduction projects based on analysis of process data. The individual is expected to utilize the scientific method to develop, test, and prove hypotheses.
  • Interface with operators, team leaders, and peers to develop and implement process, equipment, and safety improvements into manufacturing.
  • Prepare cost justifications and capital requests for any new equipment purchases that may be required to achieve project goals. Oversee all aspects of bringing new equipment into production, including preparation of financial justification, designing, specifying, purchasing, as well as tracking all spending related to the project. Develop maintenance and operator training documentation, conduct equipment qualification and initial training of production personnel, and make provisions for spare parts stocking levels. Formally document all aspects of the project.
  • Work with and train maintenance and other support personnel to improve troubleshooting skills plant-wide
