About The Position

This role is a process engineer and technical expert in image processing and vision systems. It is responsible for optimizing and troubleshooting automated image-processing processes, with an emphasis on quality control, reducing cycle times, and improving manufacturing yields. The role owns existing plant machine-vision systems and also contributes to the Bosch Center of Competency and International Production Network. The engineer specifies, validates, debugs, and improves machine-vision systems, sensors, cameras, and lighting for automated assembly defect inspection. The role uses data-driven methods to resolve production issues, bottlenecks, and false rejects, and to improve overall equipment effectiveness. It also leads the development and implementation of processes, technologies, equipment upgrades, and projects; defines and manages process parameters and vision-system programs; collaborates with internal and external partners; and mentors and trains associates. Project management, team leadership, communication with lead plants and expert teams, and international travel are part of the position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a similar field.
  • At least three years of experience in automated industrial manufacturing.
  • Experience with image processing, vision systems, and creating vision-system programs.
  • Self-starter with curiosity and the ability and willingness to lead development of technical processes.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally and with international teams.
  • Structured and systematic work approach, with willingness to adapt to dynamic changes and multitask.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally.
  • Effective communication at all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with vision systems, lighting, cameras, and sensors.
  • Experience with equipment maintenance and management, including PM and TPM.
  • PLC programming and industrial control technologies experience.
  • Problem-solving methodology and root-cause analysis experience, such as 8D, 5-Why, Shainin, or Six Sigma.
  • Experience with quality management systems.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • German or English language background.
  • Knowledge of machine-vision principles, including optics, image acquisition, camera calibration, lighting techniques, OCR/OCV, pattern matching, and image-processing algorithms.
  • Experience selecting and configuring industrial cameras, lenses, filters, lighting systems, and image-acquisition hardware.
  • Experience with 3D vision technologies, laser profiling, structured-light systems, or robotic-guidance applications.
  • Experience integrating vision systems with industrial robots for inspection, positioning, or guidance.
  • Knowledge of industrial networks, sensors, I/O systems, and machine-control architecture.
  • Experience with SPC methodologies and interpreting Cp/Cpk studies to establish and maintain process capability.
  • Experience conducting Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), Gauge R&R studies, and process validation.
  • Experience using data-analysis tools such as Python, SQL, Minitab, JMP, Power BI, or equivalents to identify process trends and optimize vision-system performance.
  • Software development or scripting experience with Python, C#, C++, or VB.NET.

Responsibilities

  • Own and serve as the technical expert for existing image-processing and vision systems in the plant and as part of the Bosch Center of Competency and International Production Network.
  • Specify, validate, debug, and improve machine-vision systems, sensors, cameras, and lighting setups for automated assembly defect inspection.
  • Use data-driven methods to resolve complex production issues, address bottlenecks, reduce false-reject rates, and maximize overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Lead development and implementation of new processes, technologies, equipment upgrades, and projects to reduce cycle time and improve manufacturing yields.
  • Define, document, and manage critical process parameters and vision-system programs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, including process development, quality, suppliers, production, and logistics, on process and equipment optimization.
  • Communicate and participate with lead plants and expert teams on new technologies and process improvements.
  • Manage projects and lead teams.
  • Mentor and train associates in vision-system processes.
