Process Engineer E4

Applied Materials•Santa Clara, CA
•$147,000 - $202,500•Onsite

About The Position

Applied Materials is seeking a Process Engineer for its CTO group, which develops enabling technologies for quantum information applications, including superconducting qubits and optical quantum computing. The group collaborates with system companies and universities to develop quantum devices with lower error rates by applying materials engineering and semiconductor processing. The Process Engineer designs and optimizes manufacturing processes for semiconductor and display technologies. The role involves collecting and analyzing data, characterizing hardware, troubleshooting process issues, measuring film and device properties, creating technical documentation, and working with customers, vendors, and suppliers. The engineer develops and characterizes PVD processes on Applied MDP chambers and provides unit-process input for device-wafer fabrication. The role collaborates across lithography, etch, device, and integration teams, as well as with research and development teams on technology development projects. This position requires conceptual and practical expertise in its discipline and working knowledge of related disciplines. The engineer may serve as a resource to less experienced colleagues and lead small projects, solve complex problems using multiple information sources, and build consensus when communicating difficult or sensitive information. The position is based in Santa Clara, California, is full-time, follows a 10-day, 8-hour shift, and involves travel up to 10% of the time. The posting lists relocation eligibility inconsistently: one section says yes and another says no.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 7–10 years of experience.
  • Strong understanding of metal deposition technologies, including PVD and ECD; dielectric/metal CMP; CMOS interconnects; and advanced-packaging metallization flows and challenges.
