About The Position

Applied Materials is seeking a Process Engineer to design and optimize manufacturing processes for display and semiconductor manufacturing technologies. The role involves collecting and analyzing data, characterizing hardware, troubleshooting engineering issues, measuring film and device properties, preparing technical documentation, and working with customers, vendors, and suppliers. The engineer will collaborate across teams and contribute to implementing new technologies and products. Within Applied Materials’ CTO group, the position supports enabling technologies for quantum information applications, including superconducting qubits and optical quantum computing. The group collaborates with system companies and universities to develop quantum devices with lower error rates by applying materials engineering and semiconductor processing. The engineer will develop and characterize PVD processes on Applied MDP chambers, provide unit-process inputs for device-wafer fabrication, and work with lithography, etch, and device teams on multiple projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 7–10 years of experience.
  • Strong understanding of metal deposition technologies (PVD/ECD), dielectric/metal CMP, CMOS interconnects, and advanced packaging metallization flows and challenges.
  • General knowledge of DUV lithography and plasma etch processes.
  • Conceptual and practical expertise in the relevant discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using judgment and analysis of multiple sources of information.
  • Ability to explain difficult or sensitive information and build consensus.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams on a regular, day-to-day basis.

Responsibilities

  • Design experiments, collect data, analyze results, and compile reports on complex process-engineering tasks while following safety guidelines.
  • Conduct hardware characterization on multiple advanced systems in compliance with safety requirements.
  • Develop and characterize PVD processes on Applied MDP chambers.
  • Provide unit-process inputs to integration engineers for device-wafer fabrication across projects.
  • Collaborate with lithography, etch, and device teams to support device-wafer fabrication.
  • Troubleshoot complex problems, perform root cause analysis, and resolve difficult process-engineering issues.
  • Generate internal and external product documentation, presentations, and technical reports.
  • Interact with customers to resolve difficult process-engineering problems with limited supervision.
  • Measure material and device properties and interpret data.
  • Identify, select, and work with vendors and suppliers with limited supervision.
  • Implement new technology, products, and analytical instrumentation.
  • Collaborate regularly with cross-functional teams.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits package.
  • Potential eligibility for a bonus program.
  • Potential eligibility for a stock award program.
