This Process Engineer role is within the Research & Development department and is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing wet chemical and manufacturing processes for new and existing materials to meet customer requirements and improve efficiency and safety. The position involves conducting critical testing of prototype products, development samples, and raw materials in a lab or cleanroom environment, adhering strictly to standard operating procedures and company policies. The role requires general supervision, planning, and accomplishment of goals, along with maintaining paperwork and quality documents.

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. in chemistry, physics, materials science, electronics, or relevant education.
  • 2 years of experience working in TOKA R&D department.
  • Experience working independently and taking ownership of projects from initiation through completion.
  • B.A., B.S. or M.S in chemistry, physics, materials science, electronics, or relevant education.
  • 3 years of process engineering or chemical engineering working experience with B.A/B.S or no experience with M.S degree or higher with Research Thesis.
  • Previous laboratory experience in a research setting in wet chemical.
  • Understanding of concepts related to product development is preferred.
  • Previous knowledge of wafer and wet process tool experience/semiconductor equipment (WET TOOL, CMP, Clean Track).
  • Practical working knowledge of scale-up and manufacturing of new chemical products and processes is preferred.
  • Strong background and sufficient experience in materials characterization.
  • Maintain ISO document and record control.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with highly technical customers and diverse audiences.
  • Ability to generate and/or maintain monthly documentation for equipment.
  • Have stable, verifiable work history with excellent attendance record.
  • Must be comfortable working with chemicals including, but not limited to, corrosives and organic solvents.
  • Must be a team player as regularly working with other professionals.
  • Good time management.
  • Software proficiency in MS Office, Adobe/Foxit, JMP.
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation to and from the work site.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. degree is a plus.
  • Previous laboratory experience and demonstrated understanding of concepts related to product development is preferred.
  • Previous knowledge of wafer and wet process tool experience (bench tool, single wafer tool).
  • Practical working knowledge of scale-up and manufacturing of new chemical products and processes is preferred.
  • Strong background and sufficient experience in materials characterization.
  • Japanese oral and written skills preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both English and Japanese (both oral and written) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize wet chemical and manufacturing processes for new and existing materials.
  • Meet customer requirements and improve work efficiency and safety.
  • Safely and efficiently conduct critical testing of prototype products, development samples, and raw materials in a lab or cleanroom environment.
  • Strictly adhere to established standard operating procedures and company policies.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and assess job site conditions and equipment functionality.
  • Inspect, detect, observe, identify, and flag concerns, challenges, hazards, and equipment malfunctions.
  • Use and operate a personal computer, office equipment, and other technological devices with a high degree of skill, accuracy, and independent judgment.
  • Analyze, process, manipulate, and accurately record extensive amounts of technical and complex data.
  • Interpret, distill, and present complicated and/or technical information to employees, customers, and others.
  • Adhere to corporate, State, and Federal regulations and guidelines when handling hazardous materials or exposed to hazardous situations.
  • Adhere to departmental and corporate standard operating procedures, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Create documents and set standards for new processes, materials, and equipment.
  • Modify and optimize existing processes and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external regulations and procedures.
  • Perform risk assessments with equipment and processes.
  • Solve complex technical problems and recommend solutions.
  • Document and report both internal and external technical data.
  • Read and interpret patents, research articles, and developing documentation.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Research and Development teams in TOK-Japan, TOW-Taiwan, and TOW-AM.
  • Participate in external technical meetings with customers.
  • Obtain necessary data and documentation for scaling lab-level prototypes to mid/high volume manufacturing.
  • Create documentation for chemicals for inventory and waste generated after testing or processing.
  • Provide custom manufacturing of chemical solutions for customers and internal evaluations.
  • Provide troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist in operations for new projects.
  • Pursue activities for continuous improvement related to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
  • Perform other related duties related to the smooth operation of the facility as required, including cleaning and housekeeping.
  • Assist in shipping management of samples and/or products.
  • Actively demonstrate high levels of employee engagement, coachability, and accountability.
  • Attend annual and/or quarterly refresher courses related to hazardous waste management and handling, general safety, quality management, and environmental management.
