About The Position

This entry-level Process Engineer position is part of the Energy & Industrial sector and has a target start date for Summer 2027. The role involves working within a multi-disciplinary team on various projects. Under the guidance of a senior process engineer, the engineer will develop heat and material balances, perform equipment sizing, conduct hydraulic calculations, and assist with facility overpressure protection. Key responsibilities include developing the Design Basis, Process Control Narrative, and supporting Cause & Effect documents. The role also involves creating PFDs and P&IDs, participating in safety reviews (HAZOP/PHAs, PSM), maintaining communication with stakeholders, assisting with proposal preparation and schedule planning, and supporting construction, commissioning, and start-up efforts. This includes drafting operating procedures and contributing to operator training manuals. The position emphasizes problem-solving using modern tools like automation and AI to improve workflows and deliver cost-effective designs. Experience with programming or scripting for automation is valued.

Requirements

  • BS in engineering with a strong academic background.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required as well as a professional demeanor.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Able to travel as necessary for client meetings, job site visits, start-up activities, off-site training, industry related conventions/seminars, etc. (up to 20% travel).

Nice To Haves

  • Oil and gas industry experience in midstream and/or upstream.
  • Skills in HYSYS, Synergi, VMG Symmetry, and/or ProMax preferred.
  • Willingness or ability to solve problems using modern tools such as automation and AI.
  • Experience building or using automation to create calculations, summarize technical documents, or draft design documentation.
  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation.
  • Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the heat and material balance for new projects using process simulation tools.
  • Perform equipment sizing calculations and prepare equipment data sheets.
  • Perform detailed hydraulic calculations to determine pipe sizes, control valve sizing, compressor and pump duties, etc.
  • Perform facility overpressure protection calculations, PSV sizing, and documentation with supervision.
  • Develop Design Basis for new projects.
  • Develop Process Control Narrative document and support Cause & Effect document.
  • Create process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Participate in safety reviews, HAZOP/PHAs and PSM activities.
  • Maintain effective communication with project team members and with clients, vendors, and contractors.
  • Participate in the preparation of proposals for engineering services.
  • Support schedule planning for projects including coordinating staffing resources with Process Engineering Manager.
  • Support construction, commissioning, and start-up efforts, draft operating procedures and provide operator training manual input.
